    Samsung 42 picture problem.

Having been on here before I have replaced my Y main board, before this I had a black screen.

Now this is what I have:

Turn on the TV - screen is black
After around 15 minutes the screen gradually comes on, but at best it's barely visible, all one colour, a kind of grey/lilac colour.

Any ideas would be greatly appreciated.

    Model number?
    Is sound good or bad?
When faulty, does screen glow at all? (check in a dark room)

One fault is NTC relay failure, though I thought that was only on newer models.
Another common fault on this set is a bad capacitor on the Y-main.

      The model is PS42B430P2W

The sound is perfect, all the time.

Newer than I expected. Can we have pictures of the chassis? This model, I don't think it has the Y-main capacitor failure but may suffer from NTC relay issues. Do you have a digital multimeter?

OK, I've highlighted two places to make some tests.

Plug in the TV and verify the fault occurs.
On the RED ringed connector, measure the voltage on each pin. Post the results.
Wait for the TV picture to look relatively normal (wait maybe 10~15 minutes.)
Measure the voltages again. Post the results.
Turn the TV off. Unplug it completely.
Feel the temperature of the BLUE ringed green component, this is an NTC. (Never do this with the set plugged in -- shock hazard!) Is the component cold, or burning hot?

Here is a photo of the screen, and picture, I will do as you have mentioned when I get home.

              Thanks.

                The NTC is cold.

Hmm, we may be looking simply at X-main fault.

Ok I have swapped the x main board, this means both the x main and y main have now been changed.

What I have now is a watchable picture, but with very little colour or definition.

The black screen and lava lamp problems have now gone.

                      Picture attached.

Here is the latest picture I am getting, the same on all inputs.

                          Very green tinge to everything.

Just when I thought I was getting somewhere...

I just went into the service menu, hoping to further fix the picture from there (as read on the forum)
Suddenly the TV went off and now I have the clicking relay symptom.

If I disconnect the Y main board, the clicking stops.

                              I think you got a dud Y-main...
