    Samsung PN50C550G1F ribbon cable.

I received this television from a gentleman with a faulty y-buffer. I replaced the buffer and the sustain because I already had the parts. No big deal.

The problem lies in the fact that the gentleman had attempted to work on the tv himself, without any idea of what he was doing. He managed to rip the top ribbon cable that connects the y-buffer to the panel itself, completely off of the panel, obviously causing a 2.5-3 inch horizontal black stripe across the top of the television. While he ripped it off, he somehow managed to do so without causing any visible damage whatsoever to the ribbon cable or it's seat on the panel. I know the verticle ribbon cables with chips inside cannot be repaired but I saw something here that gave me hope. He had literally attempted to reattach the ribbon cable with scotch tape. The amazing thing is that, when I got it, his scotch tape fix actually had 4 one-pixel horizontal lines working inside what should have been the solid black stripe. This gave me hope that it may be possible to fix. Anyone have any ideas on if reattaching this cable is possible and if so, what I might try?

PS. This is my first post here, so if I have breached etiquette in some way, let me know and I will correct the issue. Thank you.

Unfortunately the ribbon can't be repaired once it is ripped, unless you can somehow connect the two parts. It can't be reconnected to the panel because it's bonded to the glass.

The ribbon cable itself is in perfect shape. Just pulled off of the glass. So we are sure there is no way to re-fuse the ribbon to the panel?

The ribbon needs to be laser-soldered to the panel -- I'm not sure you can do this at home unfortunately.

Well that sucks. Great tv besides the black stripe across the top. Ah well. I'll just let the kids use it for a gaming tv or put it in the bedroom. Thanks for your help.

By the way, I realize that with my question I may have come off as skeptical of your expertise. I didnt mean it that way. I just wanted to clarify. Thank you.

Yea I have a 52 inch that it happened to, but it actually was part of the board not the screen side. If you google "bonding" TV panels you will see how a machine bonds this stuff to gather. Hey nothing wrong with trying to do a unorthodox repair when there is no alternative in this situation.

              Good luck

Yeah I've played around with the E/F board ribbon cables. Seeing if I could find a way where no one else did. No luck. Lol. But I couldnt find any instances of people trying to re-attach this type so I thought I would ask. I'm still going to see if I can think of something. Now that I know it hasnt been successful before, I know that whatever I decide to attempt wont be a TERRIBLE idea. Perhaps I'll find 700 ways NOT to make a light bulb.

T-con suspect issue. Both ribbon cables no picture. One ribbon cable ok. (58pus8545)

Hi guys! I realized you have a lot of knowledge here so i am hoping you could point me in right direction with my odd issue.

The Tv is a Philips 58PUS8545/12, it had no picture but working backlights.

                  Original T-con:
Opened the Tv and tested to unplug one ribbon cable at a time. With this test i could see that i got fine picture on both halves as long as there was only one ribbon cable connected, with two connected picture were gone.

                  First replacement T-con:

I thought it might be t-con and ordered new t-con from china(supposedly tested)...

Samsung UN65TU8000 - Panel Issue [ hole in ribbon cable ]
                  by NWArkGuy
Well, I will be the first to admit that I screwed up...

In attempting to replace the backlight in a UN65TU8000, I made a hole through one of the ribbon cables between the board that runs along the bottom of the back of the TV and the panel. This lead to a between a 1/4 to 1/2 inch vertical stripe running the full height of the image.

I don't have the experience; personally, to solder a bridging wire for the paths that were cut. So, I have been on the hunt for other Samsung TV's of similar size.

I have 2 that I have found and have in my possession. ...
