    Magnavox lc32sl1

I have this TV that takes a while to turn on, I found three 10V 1000uF caps that are bulged and leaking. I have available a couple of TV parts that have two 16V 1000uF and a 25V 1000uF so my question to you guys is, can I use the combination of 16V and 25V caps in place of the 10V caps?

The main thing is that it has to be low ESR type cap (such as PANASONIC FM/FR/FC series) since it is used in the hi frequency power supply. You can use what you have right now just to try it out to see if the TV will function then you can order the right type, general cap will not last in switching power supply.
That 10V 1000uF is for the 5V power supply for running the main board.

BUDM do you consider Panasonic caps the best? My second question to you is, I have ordered low impedance Nichicon caps from mouser, I have been told low impedance = low esr, yet I can find those same caps at digikey and they will state that the caps are regular usage caps. So is low esr the same as low impedance?

        Re: Magnavox lc32sl1

Capacitor ESR is not the same as Impedance. Impedance is more complex measurement of the caps.
You can learn more by Google "what is impedance rating of the capacitor"
        I.E.

I cannot say which brands are the best as far as Japanese made caps are, but I have very good records with PANASONIC caps. I am sure the NCHICON low impedance will be fine. You can compare the spec of the PANASONIC and the NICHICON (depends on the series).

          Does the diameter and height matter? If I have a cap that is 10mm X 20mm can I replace it with a cap that is 12.5mm X 20mm? Or a 10mm X 18mm replaced with a 10mm X 16mm cap?

Cap diameter/size isn't important other than getting it to fit.

Wonderful, although I keep looking at mouser and digikey for low esr caps and every cap either says general purpose or low impedance. Nowhere does it say low esr.

Yeah, I have seen that often. If unsure, look at the datasheet for low esr or low impedence.

HZ is "too" good. They are designed for computer motherboards; a power supply may not work well with them. The other two are good.

It will probably work. The problem is, some power supplies may not work with it, so I suggest FM/FR/FC as they work with virtually every power supply.

                              Hello,

First, I am a complete noob with high voltage stuff. I'm learning, but I need help by someone looking over my shoulder.

I recently came into posession of a Heathkit IO-4205 5MHz Dual Trace Oscilloscope. The documentation is copyright 1978. I'm told it works.

I opened it up to check the caps before I applied power, and found the following black caps and wanted to know what they were. They are on the power supply board. I was able to read the name and model and came up with, "Nytronics 162J-1, 0.1uF, 20% tolerance, 2000VDC."

                              Hello!

I have two projects on my work bench. One is a friends dead JBL Xtreme speaker with a blown voltage regulator and corresponding bulged and shorted cap. That cap has clear markings so I know what replacement I need for it.

The other project however is a whole different deal. It's a Zoom 9000 guitar effect from the 90th that has developed a devil hound howl when there is no input from the guitar. I'm guessing caps problem. So, since I don't really use this effect anymore I thought it would be a perfect project to learn on.

I have studied the board and...

                              Howdy folks,

I have an Optiplex GX260 that blew a couple of those troublesome Nichicon HM series (ultra low ESR) electrolytic capacitors. Because said caps are obsolete, they are pretty much impossible to find on the market; I did find a listing for some but I believe they are counterfeit. I feel the easiest thing to do would be to replace all the blown caps with polymer ones. I am by no means an expert in electronics, and I've found a fair bit of conflicting information, so any guidance or confirmation would be greatly appreciated. While from a practical standpoint it's not worth...

I'm trying to repair two old VCRs, they both have bad caps. One has leaky ones, the other would barely run until I subbed in some caps from another power supply I had laying around (though they are the wrong values). This vcr works for an hour or two, but then the power supply starts whining and the picture gets lines in it. I didn't replace all the secondary caps, so another voltage might still be problematic, or the values I used are too far off.
I've been on mouser and digikey but the options are a bit overwhelming. I just need some new ones that will work. They don't need to be top quality,...
