Re: Sony KDL46HX800 Sometimes wont power on 3 blinks

OK got the BAL board today from Shop Jimmy.
I put it in, and it won't boot. I am getting green and yellow steady flashing lights.

The part came with directions that said I need to update the firmware. I was hoping I could turn the TV on and have it DL that automatically.
I have directions for DL'ing it to my computer and putting it on a USB flash drive. I don't have a drive here yet, but have one on the way.

Am I missing something that I need to do after replacing the BAL?

I'm trying but nothing is happening.
When I plug it in it stays green for four seconds and then the green/yellow flash.

Did yours do the same James?

I guess maybe I have to get a Sony USB drive?

I had another one that I played some pictures off of before that wasn't SONY. The one I am trying to use is a Kingston Datatraveler 1gb

Re: Sony KDL46HX800 Sometimes wont power on 3 blinks

          Your drive should be ok.

Here is the sony process to do the upgrade

          Updating the Software
The software update takes up to five minutes to complete. During the update process, the screen on your BRAVIA television will display progress information, or may be blank. This is normal. Please do not remove the USB storage device until the update is complete.
WARNING! Do not power off the TV or disconnect it from the AC power source during the upgrade process. Loss of power during the installation of the firmware upgrade may cause the TV to be unusable and require repair.
WARNING! Do not press any button, except as instructed, until the update is complete. Doing so may damage your TV and make it unusable and require service.
Important: It is highly recommended to use the original Sony remote for your TV when performing this update.
Unplug all USB devices from the two USB inputs on the TV before starting the firmware update.
          Power on the TV.
Insert the USB storage device into either USB port located on the right rear of the TV.
Note: The USB storage device can only be inserted into the USB port slot one way.

Once the USB storage device has been detected, a series of different messages will appear on the TV set. Please follow the on screen instructions.
WARNING! Do not turn off the TV or disconnect it from the power supply during the update process. Doing so may damage your TV and make it unusable or require service.
During the update the POWER indicator will be green for 30 seconds, followed by the PIC OFF/TIMER indicator slowly flashing amber, and the STANDBY indicator is red. After several minutes, the TV will turn off and then turn back on to complete the update.

Please wait until a message appears indicating "The software update is complete."
CAUTION: During the firmware installation process, do not remove the USB device, turn off the TV, or disconnect the TV from the power supply.
Remove the USB device from the TV, and then click "OK" by pressing the EXECUTE Button on the remote control.
Note: If a universal remote is used to complete this update, the message indicating that the software update is complete and to select OK may remain or return to the screen. In this case, you must use your Sony remote to select "OK" by pressing the EXECUTE Button on the remote control. Otherwise you may perform a factory reset to remove the message.
You may delete the update files from the USB device, or reformat the USB device.

The update process is now complete.

Note: If either message "An error occurred during the software update" or "Software cannot be updated using this USB device" is displayed on the TV screen, please proceed to the following procedure for a possible solution:
Verify your USB device is in good working order and perform the "Download and Transfer" process again.
Press the "POWER" button on the TV to power off the TV.
Press the "POWER" button on the TV again to power on the TV.
Perform the "Updating the Software" process again.
Note: If the message "No newer version of the TV software was found" is displayed on the TV screen, your TV already has the newer firmware installed.

            Woo-Hoo, finally got it!
Just one thing to add here. When I went to do the update, nothing appeared on the screen in fact it was dark the whole time.
Actually I didn't think it was doing anything and sat down to write for more help here. Then I heard it doing some cycling and the lights were doing different things. Finally heard the Sony Ta-Da and got the message that the update was done! Not sure if the other USB stick would have worked. Today I used a 8gb PNY drive

Another concern today was the number on the old board was different A1754478A but I did see that number on SJ saying the new board is A17778906A.

Thanks jamesb6, and everyone else who helped here. Thanks Shopjimmy.com

Now I can get to work on the three big DLP's I picked up. Can't wait to watch some football on the 73"! )

Sony XR-55A80J OLED TV 5 blinks - Troubleshooting steps
              by jason123
              Hi there,
I see a couple of posts related to the troubleshooting of similar TV. The one I have is acting slightly differently and I'd love your help.

So it has the 5 blinks. Previous owner got a TCON, no luck. Got a new Main board (though he didn't do the USB firmware update), again, no improvements.

I see 2 posts that are relevant:

              Sony XR-55X90J 5 blinks
              by matwan
              Hello,

              I have problem with SONY 55X90J. After several check status is as below;
              1. Running power board as stand alone:

              TCON_12V =~ 12.6V
              EVDD V On Max 24V= 19V.

              2.
Running power board with TCON as stand alone:

              Effect as below, attched.

              3. When bottom LVDS cable is disconnected no blinks, but of course no TCON 12V and EVDD.
"I'm almost sure it's a defective panel, but maybe someone has encountered a similar issue on their screen.

              Best regards....

Sony XBR-75X940E intermittent 6 blinks error code
              by GoodCapDude
Hi everyone. First post on Badcaps!

I am trying to fix a Sony 940E from 2017 that either starts normally (and works perfectly until turned off) or goes straight to the 6 blinks error code without showing anything on the screen. It is frustrating to know that it can still work perfectly but is barely usable because of the difficulty starting it up. I am willing to try to short the BL_ERR but I would like to avoid that if possible. Does anyone have a view on this? Thanks a lot....

Sony KD-65A1 Repair – 4 Red Blinks Error
              by AK_777
              Hi everyone!
I have a Sony KD-65A1 TV with a fault – 4 red LED blinks. After disassembly and visual inspection, I found that the G76 power board and DKA board had been replaced. It is also possible that TCON was replaced, but I am not sure – there are a few marker marks that could be factory-made.

Based on assumptions, the previous service attempted to solve the issue by replacing potentially faulty components. I decided to investigate further, found a service manual, and figured out a way to power up the power supply unit autonomously and put the OLED panel and...

              Sony A1e 5-blinks help
              by jchon
Hi I'm new to trying to repair TVs, but I saw a broken OLED offered for a reasonable price and thought I'd try my hand at it.

I found the service manual, which was critical to know where to probe.
              https://www.manualslib.com/manual/20...1e-Series.html

With it I was able to determine that my DKA board was bad, when P_ON#1/2 gets enabled REG_12 on the DKA board collapses. I'm assuming one of the downstream regulators has a short, but I couldn't work out which rail/component and replaced the DKA board entirely.

              Unfortunately the 5-blinks...
