Woo-Hoo, finally got it!
Just one thing to add here. When I went to do the update, nothing appeared on the screen in fact it was dark the whole time.
Actually I didn't think it was doing anything and sat down to write for more help here. Then I heard it doing some cycling and the lights were doing different things. Finally heard the Sony Ta-Da and got the message that the update was done! Not sure if the other USB stick would have worked. Today I used a 8gb PNY drive
Another concern today was the number...

I'm trying but nothing is happening.
When I plug it in it stays green for four seconds and then the green/yellow flash.
Did yours do the same James?
I guess maybe I have to get a Sony USB drive?

OK got the BAL board today from Shop Jimmy.
I put it in, and it won't boot. I am getting green and yellow steady flashing lights.
The part came with directions that said I need to update the firmware. I was hoping I could turn the TV on and have it DL that automatically.
I have directions for DL'ing it to my computer and putting it on a USB flash drive. I don't have a drive here yet, but have one on the way.
Am I missing something that I need to do after replacing the BAL?Leave a comment:

Hey James any luck with yours?
I've been leaving mine on. Shut it down by mistake a few times, and it started right back up. I guess it's possible that it was/is a hot/cold issue.
In the meantime, the TV in the bedroom (MEMOREX MLT3221) blew out a cap while it was on last week. Stunk up the room and the picture would come on, and fade out in about 5 secs. Found one bad cap, but replaced two, and it's fixed.Leave a comment:

Thank You for the post of the service manual Budm.
Well from what I am reading in the manual page 26, it appears to be the BAL board. (As Mt.Man suggested above)
(I doubt it's the other option "speaker", since I always use external speakers)
It references F3700, IC3700, etc
WHAT DOES this mean?
Does the whole board get replaced, or is this a reference to a component that can be replaced?

Keep me posted. I just asked about he cold since it was the coldest it has been here in awhile when this acted up. Now that it's past I am hoping the TV fixes itself (at least to next winter, lol)

I haven't found a clear answer on this one yet James. I'm hesitant to turn my off right now. I think I am going to order and try replacing the caps first since that would be the cheapest fix. I know it may unlikely be the culprit, but I have read that they can go bad without showing. And since you can't check them without removing them; I am going to order some and have them here, but I am going to try the hair blower trick too next time I open it up.

Actually I did try heating though the back vents with a hair dryer the first time it occurred.
I hadn't had the back off. It didnt help.
I am in S Florida, and it has been a little cold (cool) 50-60 when these problems started.
I'm really hesitant to turn the tv off right now. Went a few days without it this week, and the lady says not to mess with it till weekend is over.
I'll give it a shot next week. Is there any certain areas, I should focus the heat on when I try it?Leave a comment:

I guess that is possible.
I should add that the TV has been working fine for a couple years and hasn't been moved. Also the problem isn't really that intermittent. Seems about out of the last 6 times it has been turned off, it has only turned right back on once.Leave a comment:

Hi,
My TV works greet, but recently has developed an intermittent problem. When I go to turn on, light goes from red to green, hear a click, then lights red, 3 blinks.
I've tried resetting when it has the problem doesn't help. If I unplug and wait awhile, most of the time will do the same, but after about 20 tries (and a few days of praying/cussing), it will fire back up normally showing the Sony logo and the red button staying on. When this happens TV comes on as usual.
So now, when I get it on, I just leave it on.
I suspect bad caps....
