How much I charge for repairs, How about you?

Well, now since the costs of these TV's are continuously dropping, I find myself no longer buying TV's to resell as often but now mostly doing repairs. There are many reasons for me to go this way. It's no longer worth me buying anything less than a 42 inch TV for what I can get for it once its repaired. Where I used to be able to net $200 profit on a 32, I now can only make about $80. Not really worth my time.

My repair costs are $60 + parts for friends and family. Others I charge $100 + parts costs. This is reasonable in my area.

    How about you guys?

I dont do plasma's unless it's a power supply problem by the explanation of failure.

You are missing out on a lot. Most of my plasma repairs are easier than LCDs. Of course, I avoid LG IPM models.

I will have to keep that in mind. I dont see too many Plasma's though on CL in my area.

Have you tried advertising "I buy TVs"? Works well for me though I do mostly get LCDs this way, plasmas tend to end up on eBay.

Yeah, I had a post on CL. It was fine for a long while. It got flagged last week. lol. Even with that, I'm not getting that much for the TV's after they sell anyways so I'm doing mostly repairs.

I try to post one single ad on Craigslitst, every other day. It almost always gets flagged within an hour. I'm almost to the point of letting it go. I find more TV's listed on Craigslist for sale than I do from people calling about the ad anyway. Honestly, I kinda like buying them that way more anyway. People that call about the ad usually tend to get offended by my offer for their broken TV but when they've listed it themselves with a price in mind, they don'tget bothered by me haggling. It's wierd.

I post regularly on Gumtree whenever I've emptied my inventory (usually once a month or so.) I usually get about 3-4 responses a day, most are cracked screens, which I turn down unless I need the parts. Most of the time my offer of around £30~£60 will be accepted.

In my area there is no repair shop per say, and you are looking at prices in the $ 400 range for easy fixes like power supply, fuses(dirty power and spikes a plenty) so most people toss them out, I get the vast majority from the e-waste drop off center, they let me grab whatever I want, as long as it doesn't come back scavenged. So there many e-waste drop offs in the area, and I have a drop routine so none are the wiser. I live in cottage country and most cottages are in the 1 million $ range so to them tossing out a 50" plasma cause it doesn't power up or toss 3 or 4 LCD's out cause they came up to the cottage and nothing works after a storm is nothing for them. I love plasma's because they can be pretty much verified in place(screen) and can be resold at a pretty good profit. I get the occassional broken screen units with perfect boards so I have a pretty good supply of boards. I get LCD's from around $ 20 bucks and will go to $ 100 for a plasma or big LCD/LED if i can open it up at their house. for repairs i double or triple the parts at the very least, only game in town so to speak. I have learned to read the customer and judge the point at which the TV is not worth fixing to them and go slightly lower than that, usually with screaming kids and no TV it works out. Newark delivers overnight so really fast turn around.
