    PDP-R03U Pioneer Media Receiver Problem

I have a 50" Pioneer TV (Old school one) with a PDP-R03U receiver. When I got it, it has the dreaded E01 error which I fixed by resoldiering the power supply board. I has been working fine for 6+ months but now I get a red hue across all video inputs. The menu does not have this red hue and occasionally it goes away when I turn the TV on but comes back after 10-15 seconds. It's not the panel because if I hook up a DVI cable directly to the plasma panel leaving out the media box, the image is great.

This is a great TV and I would hate to have to get rid of it. Any ideas as to why the screen has this red hue color?

    Thanks,

My first place to look would be a connector cable between boards. In LCD and plasma TVs, a loose cable can cause a variety of coloured hues; the same may apply to your media box.

Tom66, Thanks for that speedy response. I'll reseat all the connectors and let you know what happens.

I reseated the connectors with no change...still have the red hue. It seems it could be the video processor that takes the inputs because all the TV menus are clear. Any other ideas?

Another tidbit of information, the video is sent to the box via component cables. If I unplug the green, the image goes away. If I unplug the red or blue (while the other two are plugged in), the image changes to more of a grey scale. Is this what is supposed to happen?

Does the media box support other inputs? Have you tested those?

It does and I've tested those with the same results.

Is it a red hue (overlaying on top of all pixels) or just only letting through red?
You can test this on a black scene: Is it red or black?
                Then try different colours.

blacks seems to look black and the red hue is not very strong it's just that the non red colors do not look right. Even the white area, you know it's supposed to be white, it just has a tint of red to it.

About the component cables, is it nomal for the entire screen to go black when you unplug the green line?

                  Thanks,

This could be a cold/dirty solder joint.

That was also an idea I was thinking about. Do you think it's on the power supply board vs. the video processor board (I may not be using the best terms here)? Outside of cracks in the solder, is there another way to check for a cold solder?

I would think the video board myself. Cold solder joints can be found by heating up parts of the unit, e.g. using a hairdryer.
