Possible Purchase: HP PL4260N only half Screen Works

Is this likely a burned out buffer board
    and Ysus problem?

It looks like the Ebay repair kit has an IPM and fuse:

    http://www.ebay.com/itm/HP-PL4260N-S...-/160662255741

Except in this case, there is still 1/2 the picture that still works.

    What do you guys think?

    Which half?
    Top or bottom missing: Buffer
Left or right: LVDS, Control, X-Dist, Panel

The owner tells me, "The right side works the left is black. when on the hp symbol floats all over the screen. disapears on the left reappears on the right."

If it's the panel, it wouldn't be worth fixing, right?

When you say LVDS, do you mean it could be something simple,
      like a loose cable?

Maybe I should offer $10, and see if he bites? I could at least sell power supply and main board on Ebay if nothing else.....

Yes, loose LVDS is a possibility, I just fixed a Panasonic 46" plasma (1080p too, epic TV) with nearly the same issue.

I'm pretty sure the buffer boards are good.

Would you say it's unlikely to be a bad Ysus?

Most threads on internet say the Ysus was bad, but the whole picture was out
          in those cases.....

does the screen prime on the side that is out? in a dark room does it appear to light dimly?

A y-sustain cannot cause a horizontal split; it only makes the screen prime and show an image, like the z-sustain.

I'm not sure if the side that is out primes, the owner says it's not hooked
                up at the moment.

So it's possibly the Z sustain board is bad in this case, or maybe if I'm lucky,
a loose LVDS cable? Or if I'm unlucky, a bad panel?

                  It's NOT the Z-sustain!!

Both Y and Z boards are responsible only for making the whole panel light and prime. They do nothing about loading the image, setting individual pixels etc. They can cause maldischarge etc. but it's not going to cause half the panel to fail.

The buffers address two halves although on newer sets just one and it is relatively rare to see one fail with the other working OK.

The control board addresses halves of the panel or sometimes thirds. Usually video is received in one block, however, I have found that Panasonic control boards receive two halves of video, as a loose LVDS cable caused a missing and distorted half on the 46".

A failure in the PSU (excessive Va) can damage the panel drivers, which is not repairable.

So it's neither the Z or the Y sus. That would be good, because the
                    IPM sounds difficult to replace.

                    I think I'll offer the guy $10......

$10 gets you working Y-sus/Z-sus boards worth about $40 each on eBay.
