I used to fix TVs, with the help of this forum, several years ago.
I made a decent profit on each TV, when I was successful in the repair. If I wasn't successful, I put the parts up on Ebay, and did well there too.
But since the TV prices have been coming down so drastically, is there any more margin these days, to still make a decent profit fixing these things?
Thanks for any advice!
Paul.

Re: LG 37LD450 Doesn't Turn On
After pressing the power button:
Power-On=3.2V
INV On/Off= 0 V
I could not see an image on the screen while using a strong flashlight
on it.
I also noticed a scratch about 1/2 inch right in the middle of the screen....so maybe this one isn't a good candidate to revive anyways!...

LG 37LD450 Doesn't Turn On
The red standby LED turns on solid when I plug the unit
in, but when I hit the power button, the LED slowly
gets dimmer, and then slowly gets brighter, and then
repeats this undulation.
I cannot turn the undulation off with the power button: I
must unplug the unit and plug it back in, to get the solid
red LED again. Nothing shows up on the screen at any
time.
All voltages on the power supply seem normal: 3.5V, 12V,
and 20V. But I don't know of a way to check if the high
voltage going to the CCFLs is turning...

Does it Seem Like You can Make More Money Just Selling TV Parts on Ebay These Days?
....Instead of buying boards, and reviving the TVs, and
then going through the LONG process of selling them, it seems
easier to just sell the parts on Ebay!
This is all because the cost of brand new flat screen LCDs
have fallen once again!
I just saw a brand NEW 39" for $165, and a 50" for $250
at Walmart! THIS HAS OBVIOUSLY AFFECTED HOW MUCH
USED FLAT-SCREEN TVS GO FOR ON CRAIGSLIST!
It seems like the good times are kinda over for TV repair
people, right? It seems like the only way to really make
decent...Last edited by Paul678; 03-04-2017, 07:42 PM.

Re: Insignia NS-32L430A11 Turns off After about 35 Seconds
Well, the transformer is definitely burned out, but I have indeed
read that as the CCFL tubes age, they can have less resistance, and
draw more current, and lead to overheated or blownout transformers.
The TV cannot be turned on with the mainboard disconnected.
Even the standby LED doesn't turn on in that case.
I'm thinking I might pass on this one, and sell the mainboard on Ebay!

Re: Insignia NS-32L430A11 Turns off After about 35 Seconds
Ok, so T401 is part # 8TC00569-01GP, which is a hard part to find.
The closest I found was this one:
http://www.ebay.com/itm/261115290859?_trksid=p2055119.m1438.l2649&ssPageName=STRK%3AMEBIDX%3AIT
Which is a 8TC00564.
Do you think it might still work? What is the difference
between the parts? Is the turns ratio the same, or close enough?Re: Insignia NS-32L430A11 Turns off ...out 35 Seconds...

Insignia NS-32L430A11 Turns off After about 35 Seconds
Then I have to either unplug it, or press the power button again,
to get the red "Stand by" LED to turn back on.
Then I can turn it on again, but it will turn off again after about 35 seconds.
There doesn't seem to be any sound either.
The top half of the picture is darker, and after doing a google search, I found someone had the same problem:
http://electronics.forumsee.com/a/m/s/p12-37717-0618334--insignia-32l430a11-backlight-problems.html
They mentioned that transformer T401 was burned on...Last edited by Paul678; 03-02-2017, 09:39 PM.

Re: Westinghouse DW39F1Y1 Doesn't Turn On (Blue Standby LED is On)
There was a +0.65V on the "Power" line, and I verified
that pressing the Power button toggles it to 0 Volts, or
ground.
But shouldn't the Power line be at either +3.3V or +5V?
Do you think it's possible jumpering to the +3.3 or the +5V
will get this unit to work again?

I checked the power supply and the voltages on the main
board, and +12, +5, and +3.3 V all seem to be there.

PN60E550D1FXZA, No PS_ON, only joystick "beeps",
And the picture is completely black.
Again, no PS_ON signal at all, so only like +10V on Vs, which
should be around +215V, I believe.
There is a single control joystick, and I can get some
menu "beeps", but that's about it.
I found this online:
But it looks like I need some sort of test jig to do the logic board test patterns?
Disconnecting the X-drive cable from the SMPS didn't change anything.
I think it could be a problem with the main board, because the
+15V and +5.3V...Last edited by Paul678; 07-19-2014, 08:07 PM.

Possible Purchase: LG 37LC7D
Owner said, "it's a dark glowing black when you turn it on", which
means the backlight appears to be working.
But when I asked if he can get the menu to show up at all, and if there is sound, he said:
"No it seems like it is just on stand by. No sound or anything will happen. If you constantly turn it off and on and unplug it and plug it back in it will work eventually but it takes a few days of constant turning on and off power."
It sounds like bad caps on the power supply section that feeds the main
board, right?...
