Philips 42PF9630A/37 42” (plasma)

Hello Badcaps members. I'm working on this set with the notorious bad buffers. I was hoping to find the bad caps on the PSU but it appears that it's the Y Main/Y buffer issue instead.

I have confirmed this by disconnecting the Y power feed and then the set will stay powered up. With everything hooked up, the set does the 7 blink and shuts down.

So, the question: How in the heck do I get the Y Main and buffers out?

I have removed the vertical main structural rail and all screws on the main and both buffers. It still seems to be attached somewhere near the connections between the buffers and the main.

I am wanting to remove these in order to test the y main and each buffer to get a better idea of what has happened. I am aware that they should all be replaced together and I doubt that will happen due to the extreme cost It would still be nice to at least check them, if only for my experience

look for little white or blaqck quick releast tabs, you close the end with a small pair of needle nose and they will come out.

ah yes! I was eyeing those thinking they may be the culprits.

There are a bunch going down the left side of the buffers, but they are not securing anything, as I can lift the boards there a bit.

There is only one on the y main/y sus, and it does appear to be attached. Only problem is, I cannot get to the underside to squeeze and remove??

it may be the one with the push down button. if you push downward on the button what happens?

I appreciate the help. Pushing does not appear to do anything. It doesn't have any "give" when I push. I've been watching videos and searching high and low on the removal procedure!

Okay it's out Turned out there wasn't anything else securing it, it was just kinda snug and I was scared to pull enough. lol

Doing the continuity test where you use the y sus connector->buffer and run the other lead down each side of each panel connections, I have found a shorted IC on the lower buffer board.

Next question: how to get the buffers loose from ysus??? (this thing is driving me nuts)

So I gave the TV owner the bad news and now the TV is mine. I had originally talked with owner about buying but then I told him I would attempt to fix for him for cash.(I didn't want to buy it because of the buffer possibility)

So, the question is, what to do with it now??? Should I attempt repair or just grab out the remaining boards and try to sell them? (it doesn't look like there is much market for the other boards)
