      that diode should NOT appear open...

      That would cause loss of 24V audio supply. I can't be certain if that would just cause lost audio or other problems.

      Check across C931, C961 and C962 for 24V.

          Check the voltage across them, expect 24V.

                                That was not necessary. Lots of things can cause that. When plugged in though, TV should do a self test. So hold meter across leads, plug TV in, see reading.

                                  so what have i got to test now ? can you explain why the power/standby light will flash even when the power is pulled.

                                    Hold meter across leads of one of those caps, plug TV in, see if reading spikes.
                                    TV has capacitor that stores charge, like battery, when unplugged. So it will run for some time with no power.
