    Vizio L30WGU, powers up for a few seconds then returns to standby.

    I found this TV last week and haven't put much effort into it. It's kind of a lazy Saturday morning here so I decided to pull it out and have a look at it. There was an obviously bulged cap on the PSU. I swapped it out but still have the same issue. In standby, at the PSU, I have

    12V = 12V
    12V = 12v
    12v = 12v
    GND = 0v
    GND = 0v
    GND = 0v
    D = 0V
    C = 1.5V

    At power up, the LED turns from amber to green, the backlights flash briefly (maybe a half second) and I see the following voltages

    12V = 12V
    12V = 12v
    12v = 12v
    GND = 0v
    GND = 0v
    GND = 0v
    D = 3.5V
    C = 1.5V

    These voltages hold steady for ~3sec and then the 3.5V drops back out at which point the green LED reverts back to amber. On the main board, I have 3 fuses, they read

    F1 = 12V steady on both sides
    F3 = 5V steady on both sides
    F2 = 3.3V steady on both sides

    These voltages do not drop out when the PSU shuts off. I see one voltage regulator with a shape that I'm familiar with.

    U20
    38AU
    N12A
    3.3V
    1.8V
    0.1V

    These voltages don't change at power up or standby.

    I'm leaning towards a main board issue. I'm hoping this can be fixed at a component level. The only main boards that I can find for this set are ~$80 which is more than I really want to put into a 9 year old TV. If I can get this thing to just show a picture, I will be happy. My plan is to give it to my brother to use as a computer monitor.

    OK you see those coils on the main board, left hand side? On the end not connected to the diode, you should see a steady DC voltage.

      The top coil shows 5v at the point shown in the pic. The other coil shows 3.3v.

        Perhaps try forcing the backlight on to see what you get. If you see graphical noise or corruption I'd suspect the video processor (PixelWorks IC.)

          I can't get it to stay on. With the main unplugged, applying 3.5v to or grounding that D pin only gives a very brief flash when the voltage or ground is pulled off.

            I'd suggest you test if those crystals (oscillators) are all working.

            Other than that, I have no immediate suggestions. If schematics were available I could help more but I guess they aren't.

              1) If you hookup a DVD player so you get a picture and sound, do they both stay on?

              2) On the inverter board, it looks like some Darfon branded inverter transformers?

              You can measure the secondary resistances and report them like so

              https://www.badcaps.net/forum/showpo...6&postcount=20

              3) U23 and U25 on the main board are also regulators

                4) I found a couple of more regulators. I can't be sure since I can't read the part numbers. All circled in red.

                  From bottom to top, voltages are steady when in standby or powered on

                  The next one is U20 that I reported on earlier, the bottom regulator furthest to the left in retiredcaps pic.

                  The next one is all the way to the top, right above the heatsink.

                    Those first two are switching converters, not regulators.

                      Vizio D50u-D1 Dead Set No Standby
                      by fharris1977
                      Hi. I got a Vizio with no power or standby, and won't turn on with remote or button. I checked the voltages on the connector and all read 0.00V or nearly 0(0.050 ON/OFF pin). None of the pins are labeled STB for standby although I do see some 5V pins. Other than the obvious standby led, which isn't coming on, is there a way to check for standby voltage on this PS. I'm trying to see if my problem is the PS or mainboard. Some Vizios I have fixed with no standby led me to think it was the PS but it turned out being the mainboard. Any experience with this set would be greatly appreciated.

                      Vizio E550i-A0 no power, no standby light

                      I have a Vizio E550i-A0 that will not power on. It also does not display the standby light in the corner. I disconnected the main board cable to see if the backlights would light but they did not (maybe this is normal for this set?). I checked the voltages on the plug and they all read in mV or 0, so there's no voltage there. The fuses are ok, and the voltages of the 450v caps read about 160v. I see no visual damage on either the power supply or main board. I have read online that the main board is usually the culprit in this model, but not getting backlights with the main disconnected makes me...

                      Vizio D32f-E1 Powers on, has backlight, won't boot/no logo, no menu or video
                      by JaquesPratt
                      I have a Vizio D32f-E1 LCD TV that does NOT have a TCON board.

                      This TV recently went through some 'death throes' and now won't boot. The first problem that began to manifest was while watching tv, the screen would 'freeze', and the image would dim over a few seconds until it was very dark. HOWEVER, the audio of the show would continue as normal. I could power off the TV for 5-20 seconds, power back on, and the video would be normal. This would occur 1-3 times when the TV was first started, and would not happen again after the TV was 'warmed up'. Not ideal, but this glitch was manageable....

                      Vizio E320-A1 Powers on But No Display
                      by npolite
                      Hi All,

                      I have a Vizio E320-A1 which lost sound and picture. The power LED comes on and stays on but nothing else works. I am not able to power it off unless I unplug it.

                      Here are the voltages when the power is on

                      1 - 5.25
                      2 - 5.25
                      3 - 0
                      4 - 4.8
                      5 - 25
                      6 - 25
                      7 - 0
                      8 - 0
                      9 - 0
                      10 - 12
                      11 - 12
                      12 - .9
                      13 - .5

                      Can someone let me know if the issue is with the mainboard?

                      Thanks...
