    Buffer board or ysus?

    Hello everyone,

This is my first post here, I'm fairly new to TV repair as well.

I have a 42 inch HP plasma TV with the usual sound but no picture issue. After replacing the Ysus board, the TV came right back to life.

Unfortunately, there was a single thin horizontal black line along the bottom the lower half of the screen. Thinking it was most likely a loose ribbon cable, I opened and closed the ribbon cable a few times, (here comes the dumb part) with the power on.

    I know, I know, I know, stupid.

Anyways, while doing this, I fried something and now the picture has vertical lines running top to bottom and colored squares everywhere. They are not in one place, they are scrambled and move around. For example, a color that should appear in the image on screen appears as an entire vertical line top to bottom during those frames.

I have not ever seen this symptom, but I suspect I just killed the new ysus that I installed? Either that or the buffer board. I see nothing obvious upon visual inspection and all fuses are intact.

Thank you in advance for any help

**The pictures show what would normally be the menu screen with the hp logo floating around. The thick vertical line moves around in the same manner***

It looks like the plasma panel itself is damaged (the horizontal drivers are damaged.) It is unrepairable as they are bonded to the plastic flex which is bonded to the glass. However if that bar moves then it is likely to be Y-buffers.

Yes it looks like the normal fault when the buffers go bad on the LG chassis. This happens quite a bit on the 50" plasmas. You most likely shorted the buffer when you were trying to adjust the ribbon cable.

Thanks for the help. I'm going to order the buffer boards and I'll update the thread with my results. I suspected the buffer boards, but I thought maybe the Y sustain could cause these same symptoms.

I really hate to put anymore money into this TV, but I also hate to scrap it.

Replaced the Y-buffer. TV is good as new. The horizontal black line disappeared too.

Thanks for the help guys, I really appreciate it!

            Problem

This is an LG edge LED lit LCD Display. The LEDs are on the bottom edge of the display. There are 2 bars (left and right) Each bar has many LEDs and a 6 pin connector. Each pin drive several LEDs thus is the highest current flow / heat junction. The weak lead free solder gradually fails with thermal expansion/contraction cycling and increases resistance. PSU will compensate up to a point, then when the current is too high, PSU just shut down the backlight causing a dark display. I have even seen one which the connector just fell off as solder points became completely detached....

I was given this TV from my great uncle. He said it just wouldn't turn on one day out of nowhere, replaced the TV, and gave it to me to possibly fix and use for myself.

Upon bringing it home and plugging it up, it showed a standby light.

I powered it on and without a flashlight, the display showed the "V" but the lighting is very dim, but visible.

The screen seems to blackout and stay black, but with a flashlight I can see the display.

With my Playstation 4 connected via HDMI, and running a game I can hear sound.

Hi, this is my personal laptop, which the original board (lets call it Board A) blew up PU8700 (TPS51486), making a hole on the board, i had left the laptop at my desk one day with the battery fully charged and didn't touch it for a week, but when i tried to turn it on it didn't
Thought the battery was dead, so i plugged in the charger then tried to power on, the power LED blinked once, charged LED still orange, unplugged the charger, plugged in again and I noticed the "magic smoke" smell, so i unplugged the charger, removed the back cover and saw the blown IC (the "magic...

            TCL 49S405 double image

LCD displays a 2nd image slighty offset vertically. And multiple pairs of black lines along the bottom. Probably common as google "TCL 49S405 double image" pulls up this ifixit post ( link ) with identical ( nearly, but their fault seems to be on the other half of the panel than mine ) problem without solution.

This one looks to be a more difficult to diagnose because most? of TCON seems integrated ( CSOT BGA on buffer baord) into the left panel edge board ( looking from rear of TV) There are 2 buffer boards for each 1/2 of the screen. Main connects to the left buffer board...

            by howardc64
All left and right refers to looking from rear of TV (or looking from front with TV upside down)
            • TV came with vertical bars and no image. Found faulty TVS on left buffer board. Also replaced T-Con (may have damaged the original while hot air removing components, board has slight warp) and have full image but few horizontal lines on the screen. Some of the lines appears to be 2 pixel tall while others are 1 pixel tall.
            • Disconnecting left and right buffer board potentially reveals problems on both sides with different signals (unless this T-Con require jumper like Samsung FB_TRDY1&3) Fault
