No picture or sound, tv turns on?

I have a LG 37lb1da that turns on, but it shows no picture or makes any sound. When turning on the tv the [power button goes from blinking orange to solid white and stays on. the tv stays on and the lights behind the tv light up and the picture is blackish like the tv is about to show a picture but never does. I took the tv apart and i found 1 bulging 16v 1000uf on the power board but nothing else. I'm wondering if that bulging cap would be causing all this? Thanks in advance.

    P.S sorry for no pics.

The cap could certainly cause this problem, I have a feeling the chassis is similar to 37LC2D which I repaired with the same failing cap causing lots of other problems. I still had a picture, but the sound was intemittent, and the TV would not turn on from the remote or side buttons - only when plugged in. It could also be a t-con fuse, but try the cap first. (Don't use Radioshack or Fry's caps, whatever you do.)

They are Nichicon, good caps. Hope they are genuine - lots of fakes coming out of China.

One thing I forgot to ask was did the TV suddenly die one day or just start taking longer and longer to show a picture before not showing one at all?

Is the T-Con fuse the fuse on the power board that you can take out and replace? Or is it something i need to replace and solder? Thanks again.

It's on the T-con board, which is the board under the metal shield at the top of the LCD panel. It is something you need to desolder to replace.

Most people who buy capacitors off ebay don't have the expertise to tell real from fakes and incorrectly give positive feedback.

When the capacitors fail 6 to 18 months later, they have no way of going back to ebay to give negative feedback or simply don't bother.

Since you live in the USA, you have access to many reputable suppliers like digikey, mouser, badcaps store, etc and are guaranteed to get real caps.

I have the same problem with my LG LCD tv, but there aren't any bulging caps. Any suggestions on how where to get started troubleshooting? Thanks.

                        by TR103
                        Hi, I have a Samsung UE50TU with:
                        - sound and backlight, but no picture
                        - when it arrived, it had a picture for a few seconds
                        - it keeps rebooting
                        - without ribbon cable between the two panel boards, it does not reboot but I have no picture
                        - without cable between mainboard and lcd panel, it does not reboot (but obviously i have no picture)
                        - when i try a tape fix, its keeps rebooting, unless I tape off pin 1 (the innermost pin). In that case it does not reboot but I have no picture.

                        - without cable between mainboard and lcd panel and with a jumpered...

Samsung UN60EH6000F Black Screen, Backlight and Sound Good. Power Cycle Returns Picture
                        by Mgiffune
I have a 60 inch Samsung UN60EH6000F flatscreen TV. The screen went black a few months ago Sound is good, backlight is good, no menu. I replaced the TCon board with a used board purchased from Ebay. It worked fine for a 3-4 months, then the screen started ‘fading' back. Once again, sound is good, backlight is good, no menu. However, this time the picture looks fine for about 10-15 minutes, then fades back. If I power cycle the TV, the display reappears, for another 10-15 minutes, then fades black again. Repeatable ever time.

I ordered a supposedly ‘new' Tcon board this time, and
                        ...

so i took out one of my spare gigabyte ep35-ds3r mobos from storage for use to do some cpu, ram and video card testing of stuff i bought from ebay and got for free from momaka. he bought 50 e8400 cpus for cheap from ebay some years ago and i decided to help him relieve him of some of his supply since he had waaaay too many!! what did we say about hoarding too much stuff and depriving others of them?! *cough* socialism *cough* lol!

i had to blow some dust off the board and heatsinks with the datavac as i didnt clean it up before putting it in storage. after finishing...

                        Hello all,

This is my first post, but long term lurker on the form learning as much as possible about these TV's. I was given this TV as due to a power outage of constant On/off of power to TV. The TV originally would just click on and off (Typical Reboot Cycle). I opened the back of the TV, and troubleshooted by taking the 96 pin LVDS off one at a time to see if I had a picture on either side. I finally fixed the reboot cycle by finding the error on the left side of the screen off connector CN 1301, and the TV would stay on. Further troubleshooting led me to the driver boards where...

Samsung UN60F8000BFXZA ~ No Picture or Sound - 5 Res Light Blinks
                        by kca
                        Hello all ~

I’m working on this Samsung 60” LED and purchased a new main board a couple of days ago that did not fix the 5 blink issue. The original main board’s HDMI ports (all 4 of them) failed to work and no amount of reflow remedied that.

This 5 red light blink code on the front panel LED is followed (about 15-20 seconds afterward) by an automatic reboot, and results in 5 more red light blinks. Then the entire cycle repeats itself indefinitely.

                        No picture. No sound.

I tested all the voltages coming out of the power supply...
