Vizio E470vl Dreaded white logo no backlight

So, I have (2) E470VL TVs both with issues. This first one had the back light on and a white logo, but no picture or sound. Based on some of the reading here, I purchased a new main board for it and that fixed it.

Here is the crappy part. The second E470VL, when you pushed the power button. The Vizio logo went from amber to white, but no back light, picture or sound. I thought I read here that a new power board would fix that. So, I ordered the new power board and it still had the same issue. Then, I got the bright idea to take the new main board that I put in the 1st into the 2nd TV. New power board, new main board, it should power up and work right? Nope, the back light started to come on. Then I hear a sound from the power board that sounded like a computer hard drive writing and the back light goes out and now I'm back to the white logo and no back light. The kicker is now when I put the new main board back into the first TV that worked, it now has the same problem! White logo with no back light.

Since the issue reproduced itself on the previously working 1st TV. I would like to troubleshoot what "blew" on the new main board to cause the issue. Any ideas on where I should start would be much appreciated.

Can you post a high quality pics of the new main and the inverter(s) of the second tv mentioned?

Follow my sig file below on how

      1) attach pictures

      2) test a voltage regulator since it is a Vizio

What are the voltages on that connector on the power supply?

And for kicks, what happens when you put the main from the second tv into the first one?

The hard drive sound, sounds like arcing.

Here is an image of the IC from the power board to the main board. I think this is what you were asking for as it relates to voltages of the connector.

Also, when I put the 2nd main board into the 1st TV. The same problem occurs, white logo, no back light.

Ok, better question, do you have or have access to a digital multi meter?

The arcing possibly damaged the power supply or at least the inverter portion so now you are stuck with symptoms for the second (so in theory a p/s should fix the first tv). The main may be ok for both tvs.

Can you see an image on the screen (for both tvs) (i.e. in a dark room shine a flashlight and see if you can see a menu pop up?)

For the second tv, you may have a short in the backlight.

Re: Vizio E470vl Dreaded white logo no backlight

Ok, so I have some good news. I was able to exchange out the main board that I just purchased and the 2nd TV broke. With the newly exchanged main board, TV 1 is working again.

drpj23, yes I have a digital multimeter. How would I test to see if I have a short in the backlight of the 2nd TV?

                Thanks

Re: Vizio E470vl Dreaded white logo no backlight

Well, first we are going to troubleshoot with the inverters disconnected since that was the probable cause for it. Install the power and main and see if it'll cut on and act as it is supposed to. With the multimeter, verify the voltages coming out of the power supply.

                  So for example
                  Connector JW34
                  Pin 1 - 24v - 23.87v

It never ceases to amaze me how many people come here looking for help, but don't even bother to try or report the results of the suggestions posted earlier.

                          by Daveleone
Hi all! I've got a Vizio VO42L. Plug it in, and logo flashes orange/white for a bit, then solid orange. Press power, and logo changes to white. There is no backlight.
From reading some of the posts here I thought the inverter could have been the problem, but I've replaced it and still have the same issue. I noted that shining a flashlight on the screen shows nothing, so now I'm thinking main board?

I took the following readings with the TV powered on. I also tried taking the readings with the CFL connectors unplugged - no change.

                          Main board:
                          Continuity across...

                          by Super360
Ok so here's the story. I was watching tv one day when all of a sudden I heard a pop from the back of the tv set and rushed to unplug the set. By this time the tv already had smoke coming out the back. It was not storming or inclement weather that day to cause a power surge to the best of my abilities. When I opened the tv up, I found that the three capacitors on the psu (highlighted in red) were all bulging and looked they had exploded. I replaced all of them right away and when I went to start up the tv after the "fix" it started just showing the flashing vizio logo as soon as power...

Vizio V555-G1 stuck on wallpaper; now stuck on V logo
                          by x_orange90_x
I just got this tv today and it's getting stuck on the wallpaper. When I first power it on it goes to the V logo, then a black screen for about 15 seconds, then a Chromecast error for just a few seconds, and then finally to a wallpaper. It stays frozen on this wallpaper and does not respond to anything on the remote besides power on/off. Likewise the buttons on the tv do nothing either (besides power). I did the "reset" by holding the volume down and input buttons together for 10 seconds. It showed a message at the top of the screen saying it was Wiping Data and would restart soon. After...

Vizio D32f-E1 Powers on, has backlight, won't boot/no logo, no menu or video
                          by JaquesPratt
I have a Vizio D32f-E1 LCD TV that does NOT have a TCON board.

This TV recently went through some 'death throes' and now won't boot. The first problem that began to manifest was while watching tv, the screen would 'freeze', and the image would dim over a few seconds until it was very dark. HOWEVER, the audio of the show would continue as normal. I could power off the TV for 5-20 seconds, power back on, and the video would be normal. This would occur 1-3 times when the TV was first started, and would not happen again after the TV was 'warmed up'. Not ideal, but this glitch was manageable....
