Samsung 50" Plasma (HP-S5073) - Yellow dots on screen...

    Hello to all,

I been searching this awesome site for a few days and trying to find any similar issues with my TV. Since I could not find something similar I wanted to post my first question to you all.
This TV has appeared to have yellow dots on the screen. After some research I believe it could be the Y-Main Y Board. I have attached a similar board below to show what I am talking about.
I double checked ALL capacitors to see if any are popped or damaged of any kind and they all seem to be fine. I do not notice anything out of the ordinary besides what is on the screen (yellow dots).
So the causes of my yellow dots on screen are from Y-Main board having issues?
    Y-Main board Model# LJ41-04516A

Any type of feedback or any questions please feel free to ask away.

Thank you all for time on this issue I have,

    Louis aka Newbie to Badcaps...

It is not the Y-main, as that can't cause that type of noise. Maybe the control board, but I think more likely the main board. Look at the OSD. The glitchy shadowing trails parts it shouldn't.

Thank you tom66 for your time to reply to my question.
So you believe One or Two of these boards attached photos could be the issues I am having?
Would the best easiest choice would be to just replace with known working boards that I can find on the internet? Since I see no visible wear on Capacitors or any other damage.

      Thanks for any feed back...

I suspect it's the board with the video inputs on it - the main board. Never seen one with a fan, so I'd guess there's some serious processing going on there. Knowing Samsung, when things get hot and need a fan, they always undersize it so the processor has cooling problems later on, as I have seen video noise on an LE40A656 from an overheated processor.

          Hello,

I been busy with work and was never able to follow-up with my new issue. My original problem was yellow dot's on plasma screen. After tom66 pointed me in the right direction I replaced it with a mainboard I found used.
Once I replaced the mainboard the yellow dots are gone but now I'm missing a good quarter right side of my screen now. I have re-seated all cables several times but same issues. I also put back in defective mainboard and the whole screen has yellow dots. So I know my panel is okay and it is all pointing to the replacement mainboard. The only thing I see wrong is the Revision numbers are different.
As you can see in the photos on what I suspect as being my problem.
I have the same exact mainboard model # replaced BUT the Rev #'s are different.
Can this be my problem and if so what can I do to fix?

Thank you all for your help in this matter I'm having,

          Louis - hndrx1223

This may be silly, but maybe reflowing his old mainboard will spring it back to life?

I think the revision number will make a difference, I always try to get the exact same part and revision. But good luck, maybe you can exchange the board for one with the same revision?

I don't think the model number is the problem. More than likely, the replacement main board is faulty -- we have seen this lots of times.

Is the fading gradient pattern the test pattern?
How are the menus - are they affected too?

Correct that was the pattern test.
At first when the yellow pattern started, it was sort of a "clean" pattern. After couple hours it started showing more red/purple/green pixels all over the screen (3rd picture). You can see on the 4th pic the Black and White pattern is quite colorful. The menus are affected as well.

I am suspecting the control board. Do you have a hairdryer or hot air gun? If you heat the control board gently and it gets worse, you know it could be that board. I am in the process of diagnosing someone else's Samsung 50 incher here and it also appears to have a bad control board, though I'm not 100% on the diagnosis.

Yes I have a heat gun. I will try that when I get home. So, you dont believe it could be the same problem as hndrx1223 was facing, which was the Main Board?.

It -could- be the main board. But on his set, there was a distinct sort of "digital" noise to it -- it's hard to describe. On yours, it's far more faded and unstable, which the control board can usually cause. It's also possible to enable a test pattern on some Samsung control boards; if the heating doesn't work, post a picture of your control board and I will check if it has the test pattern option. This bypasses the main board and verifies if the control board and plasma drive boards, as well as the plasma panel, are functioning correctly.

I see that this is a really old post, although I have the same model tv. The image comes up with red and black dots. Same issue?

I also found 2 caps that seem swollen. I will post pictures of where they are located. I took the cover off the tv and there is a ton of dust built up which I have cleaned off now.
