Hi all, my Sammy LE40M87BDX has some fixed diagonal lines across the lower half of the screen which is similar to the securityman thread. Number 12 on the service menu says 'reset' which I presume is the factory reset? Should I try this first? The lines do not move, I've not taken a look inside yet.

If the lines do not move, I would presume LCD failure.
RESET may be the best option. Please do not PM me with questions! Questions via PM will not be answered. Post on the forums instead!

Re: Samsung LE40M87BDX - Diagonal lines across lower half of screen
It looks like the screen has been laid down on something or something put on it when flat. I have seen it on a smaller scale and tried a pixel repairer but it did not work. It was less obtrusive on mine and kids had it in their bedroom.
I think it is permanent damage to the panel. Please upload pictures using attachment function when ask for help on the repair

That's a shame, the TV is full HD and apart from these lines, the picture is really good. Maybe not viable to replace the panel due to cost, even if I could find one? May end up keeping it as a spare or selling internal parts on that well known auction site!

Re: Samsung LE40M87BDX - (Diagonal?) lines across lower half of screen
Bump! Don't want to hijack this thread but my TV (same model) seems to have the same problem and I have some interesting details.
TV first showed short coloured area over multiple lines approx. 5cm wide and less than a centimter high, consistent with an impact (because children reported that a toy was thrown at the screen)
The area widened very slowly over several months. And at the same time sporadically the TV started the Samsung typical on/off-switching sometimes longer, sometimes shorter periods but always stopped after minutes (or hours) Also the intervals appeared to be arbitrary in length.
After moving house I initially didn't notice when we saw that the problem was completely gone, the picture clear as when new (bought about April 1997 for 1299 pounds w/ a DVD recorder) However, the onf/off-switching intensified in an unpredictable manner.
Only after several weeks the "impact" spot re-appeared and over the next week widened slowly but steadily into the fixed lines you can see on the attached photo.
I hoped to find some bulged capacitors but after removing the backplate and removing the power board everything looks mint to a visual inspection. Don't want to exchange the 1000uF 10V (1x) and 25V (2x) capacitors just out of suspicion and have currently no 47uF 50V (3x) ones as mentioned above in the thread.
Any news, problem found or even fixed??!
Regards
