    Philips plasma 50pfp5332D/37 power issue

I posted this in another similar thread but got no answers so starting new one. A friend has a Philips 50" plasma 50PF7220A/37 which we use to watch sports. It was given to him about 8 months ago since it had 'problems' powering on etc. We got it to come on at the new location so we got lucky for a few months. But then it went off and wouldn't come back on no matter what we tried. I do all the gang's tech work so I did some checking on Internet and saw all the posts about similar problems with these tvs.

We laid the tv on the table and opened up the back. I quickly saw 3 capacitors puffed up on the power board. I've not done a lot of soldering so took the board to a repair shop where I had the 3 bad caps replaced for $20 (I forget now which ones). Put it all together and it worked better than ever. I looked like a genius to the gang. Well, that lasted about 2-3 months and tv started having trouble coming on again. The other day I did the unplugging, waiting, plugging back in a few times but still no power on. Left it plugged in awhile but then all of a sudden we heard a loud pop from inside tv. I thought it'd be easy to spot something burned up inside.

Opened it up again and looked inside but we could see nothing apparently burned. Looked closely at all caps and other parts, tested all fuses but found nothing bad. There are 2 green LEDs on power board but only the one marked LED 8002 is solid on when plugged in; 8001 never comes on. I saw no other LEDs other than the red and green ones at left bottom (as seen from front).

When we plug it in the green LED light in left bottom corner comes on for 7-8 seconds but then the red one flashes 7 times, short pause and then again 7 flashes, etc. Somewhere online I read 7 flashes means bad y board.

After figuring out what board is what I disconnected Y board and plugged TV back in. No change. Tried disconnecting X board but nothing different. I'm stumped and probably in over my head now. Too heavy to haul to repair shop and I'm hesitant to buy new power board for $150+- and then still have problems. Why put more money into an old TV which is apparently on its way out. It's on his table so he's tired of it and ready to recycle it and too heavy to haul to my upstairs condo.

So, any quick suggestions? Thanks, Don

Just my luck -!!!! There was a class action suit recently for this model and other Philips but suit is now closed and settled. Late again......!!

Hmmmmm...... doesn't anyone moderate these forums?? :-)

Does anyone need any of the boards form this TV? If not, it's going to recycle place.

If it fails to work with X or Y main unplugged, then the problem is likely on the power board - especially if you heard a pop. Did you test every fuse?

Also, what brand and type of capacitors did the repair shop replace the faulty ones with? It´s absolutely vital to use capacitors with appropiate specifications.

Perhaps you can share some high-res photos of the circuit boards?

Re: Philips plasma 50pfp5332D/37 power issue

I'm too much of a novice to know what capacitors they put in. It was a small but very reputable repair place specializing in big TVs, etc. so I would have to assume he knew what he was doing and replaced them correctly. And yes, you never know. We did check every fuse but didn't pull them all out.

Anyhow, my friend wanted it gone so the TV has the back put back on and in the back of my suv ready to take to recycling. It is way too heavy to keep moving around and no one in our group wants to put $150-200 into new power board and then still might have problems. I think we have given up - that's why my last post asked if anyone might want any parts from it. If I don't hear from anyone in a few days then it goes out. Thanks for all the advice anyhow.

I just pinged someone who might be interested. You may be getting a PM in the next day or so.

Help Needed: Samsung UE55MU8000 Dead - Possible Main Board Issue
              by Asraf Atb
              Hi everyone,

Im looking for some advice regarding my Samsung UE55MU8000 TV with main board model BN94-11606C. The TV suddenly stopped turning on and now shows no signs of life at all not even the standby light at the bottom.

Initially, I suspected an issue with the PSU, so I took it to a repair center. They tested it and confirmed that the PSU works perfectly, even on other TVs. Based on that, I started investigating the main board.

I disconnected the main board from the PSU, and the backlight turned on, which seems to confirm the main board is the issue....

Originally the tv arrived with dimmed backlights (not failed leds) but everything else worked ok. Adjusting backlight in menu did nothing but voltage changed on dimming control pins,
              0% p_dim at 1.65v and a_dim at 1v
              50% p_dim at 3.3v and a_dim at 1.65v
              100% p_dim at 3.3v and a_dim at 2.88v

Changed backlight leds anyway as always like to have complete peace of mind they wont fail shortly after selling the tv. No change as expected!

Leds are 2 rows of 15 6v leds.

Vizio e601i-A3 - Has Sound and Display, But No Backlight - Bad Power Supply Board or Bad LED Bulbs ?
              by Tynan Dill
I was given this TV from my great uncle. He said it just wouldn't turn on one day out of nowhere, replaced the TV, and gave it to me to possibly fix and use for myself.

Upon bringing it home and plugging it up, it showed a standby light.

I powered it on and without a flashlight, the display showed the "V" but the lighting is very dim, but visible.

The screen seems to blackout and stay black, but with a flashlight I can see the display.

With my Playstation 4 connected via HDMI, and running a game I can hear sound.

              Assuming...
