    Grundig GU22DVD - Fuzzy/rolling picture

Got this one to repair and return - normally don't do this but it's for a friend so I said I'd have a look at it.

The problem is the picture is fuzzy, each line is skipping a few pixels randomly, and sometimes it loses vertical sync. It also has difficulty with composite video inputs, they always show "No Signal". OSD is affected as well as the video.

I tore it down and checked the regulators. They're all 3.3V; one is outputting 3.29V, another 3.31V, but there's one on the board that's doing 3.25V. It's a little low, so I scoped the output (with my new DS1102E ) - sure enough, it's oscillating at around 400kHz with over 1Vp-p of ripple.

Fault is either the regulator (massive D2PAK device - lots of fun to remove) - or one of the caps. I hope it's the caps as those will be far easier to replace.

    Some photos of the fault.

Some scenes cause vertical rolling, others do not. Seems very light or very dark is okay but lots of brightness transitions = problem.

Also note the colour noise, didn't notice that before.

D2PAK is easy to remove. Use your soldering iron and solder pump to clear the pins first, then lift them off the board. For the tab, either use a hot air gun set to 400C, or a soldering iron with a wide chisel tip. Once the solder melts, lift it off with a pair of needle-nose pliers.

      A working TV? How boring!

Thanks for the tips. I will try replacing the caps near it first but if I have to, I will replace the regulator.

Amazingly, it looks like the oscillating regulator ISN'T the problem. I soldered a 47uF cap in parallel, 0.9 ohm ESR. Now it's not oscillating but the picture problem is the same; time to check the T-con.

Okay... it WAS a loose cable in the end. Just on the T-con end. I'm sure the LDO would have eventually caused issues though... It's fixed now though.

T-con suspect issue. Both ribbon cables no picture. One ribbon cable ok. (58pus8545)
              by Tr0ll
Hi guys! I realized you have a lot of knowledge here so i am hoping you could point me in right direction with my odd issue.

The Tv is a Philips 58PUS8545/12, it had no picture but working backlights.

              Original T-con:
Opened the Tv and tested to unplug one ribbon cable at a time. With this test i could see that i got fine picture on both halves as long as there was only one ribbon cable connected, with two connected picture were gone.

              First replacement T-con:

I thought it might be t-con and ordered new t-con from china(supposedly tested)...

SAMSUNG UN55KS9000F picture fades then distorts into vertical lines after 20 seconds
              by JJAAMM
This was my main TV for the last 6 years. I'm not inclined to throw out a $2600 TV so quickly so I'm trying to investigate the issue.

              Problem
TV was disconnected from power for 6 months during construction. When I plugged it yesterday picture was fine, after 30 seconds it dimmed then started developing horizontal lines, picture then starts to ghost vertically until it degrades into vertical streaks. TV always displays a perfect picture when cold. I can unplug TV for 5 minutes and plug it back in and picture is restored for 20 seconds. I can also keep it in standby mode...

Samsung TV model UE50TU: rebooting, backlight, sound, but no picture
              by TR103
              Hi, I have a Samsung UE50TU with:
              - sound and backlight, but no picture
              - when it arrived, it had a picture for a few seconds
              - it keeps rebooting
              - without ribbon cable between the two panel boards, it does not reboot but I have no picture
              - without cable between mainboard and lcd panel, it does not reboot (but obviously i have no picture)
              - when i try a tape fix, its keeps rebooting, unless I tape off pin 1 (the innermost pin). In that case it does not reboot but I have no picture.

              - without cable between mainboard and lcd panel and with a jumpered...

Grundig 49 VLE 420 BN - no picture
              by betmen
I bought this used TV as defective, it does not show any picture or menu screen.
When it is turned on, there is no picture, but the backlight works.
The motherboard is ZG7190R-9 and it is probably defective.
Through ads I can buy a cheap TV Grundig tv 43 gua 7000 Barcelona with a broken screen. How can I find out which motherboard is in that TV because if it doesn't match I wouldn't buy it.
Stickers from both TVs are attached....
