    Magnavox 42MF439B/F7 possibly bad panel

    I need some opinions..........

When i first got this tv the back light would come on but no display (glowing black screen). I opened the tv up and found a chip on the tcon had a nice hole scorched in it. Ordered a tcon from ebay with a broken screen and this is what i see. Twisting the panel makes no difference. Running the tv for a couple hours the image doesn't change. I've cleaned and re-seated the ribbon cables. No slow motion. Its a Chi-Mei panel so i don't have my hopes up.

There is another tcon on ebay for $9 with free shipping. Should i try another tcon or am i just wasting my time and money?

    Thanks

did you find any issues on the main board or with voltage coming in from the power supply? i've had overheated CPUs or CPUs with the wrong voltage put up video like you've got.

I too would blame the panel here pending the year of the tv. I find myself going back to plasma (I always liked them more anyway) ever since the lcd panels started showing up with problems.

LG 82UN8570AUD ~ TCON or PANEL?
        by kca
        Hello all ~

Hope this finds you well. This LG 82UN8570AUD (April 2021 model) 4K UHD television has full audio capabilities but video is compromised / problematic.

When I picked up this large LG tv it had a full black screen upon startup. Previous owner said it just went black one day. No popping sound or anything else of note.

I got the display to work by taping off several traces of the right-hand side ribbon cable on the TCON that leads from TCON to PANEL. However, despite dozens and dozens of attempts to find the right combination / range of traces taped...

TCL 50S535 bad tcon or panel issue?
        by x_orange90_x
Just bought this for 10 bucks yesterday hoping to fix it. The guy said water dropped inside from a dehumidifier hose and it started showing black and white vertical bars then went blank. When I got it home and turned it on it came on fine and displayed correctly but I was noticing faint vertical bars in the image. After a little bit I turned it off and back on and it was a black screen again. I opened it up to check for water damage and corrosion but didn't find anything of the sort. I cleaned the ribbons anyway and reconnected them but still got a blank screen. If I disconnect the right side...

TCL 43S423 TCON OR PANEL FAULTY???
        by netgearnetgear
Good day, I have a TCL TV: Model 43s423. After turning ON the TV, the ROKU TV logo appears with fine lines over the whole screen, then after a while there are vertical bands in the middle of the screen top to bottom and the TV tries to update its firmware but I do not have the remote to connect it to my new network connection. Also the Power ON light blinks 2 times in quick succession. When I remove the ribbon on the right of the tcon board the left side of the screen shows but with fine lines. If I remove the left side ribbon and connect the right side ribbon the whole screen is blank with...

Sony KD-75XF9005 grey Picture but Sound. TCON or panel?
        by iglitare
        Hi,

i want to repair a Sony KD-75XF9005 TV that initially only showed a grey picture.
Backlight seems to work, Sound (Setup menu after reset) works.
If i dissconnect the left FFC cable from TCON to panel i have half a screen on the right. If left cable is connected always only the grey screen.
Interchanged the cables, its always only the right side that is working. Always grey if left side is connected.
With my small knowledge i would think at least the cables are good.

Can this happen because of a bad tcon board?
Or is it always a bad/shorted...

General Questions on the Relationship Between Mainboard, TCON and Panel
        by mmartell
My goal here is to be able to use boards on hand to swap into faulty sets when the faulty board is not obvious.

I will start by asking what is the format of the output from the mainboard and is it generic in any way or does it vary by manufacturer and/or model ?

And as far as I know a tcon and panel must be a matching pair because the timing of the signals and the voltages required to drive the panel are specific to the panel itself. (That may be a blanket statement that isn't true in some cases where the panel creates its own sub-voltages on its panel boards?)...
