    Philips 32PF4320 - dead

Quite an oldie here... only VGA for HD input, no DVI or HDMI. This is the second TV I picked up a couple of days ago.

Fault is set is completely dead no sign of power. No standby power on the PSU.

Opened it up and found that two resistors on the standby supply (one says 2.0 ohms, the other is unreadable) are burned open to 600 ohms. Also, the controller IC shows 500 ohms from Vcc to GND, indicating to me that something has wounded the chip, possibly a shorted FET.

This TV was previously repaired by a TV technician. Clearly the bridge has been replaced - but he never bothered to bolt the new one down to the heatsink!

A new PSU is £14, I hate to give in so easily but it looks like the best way to go.

In this case it's two SMD resistors on the bottom of the board so I can't see the values in the picture, but I'll report the values when I get the new board.

New power board in, TV works great. Resistors are 2.7 ohm, by the way. Both are the same. 2.0 ohms was close, probably okay although would affect current limit... or if it was a current-mode power supply maybe change frequency.

Yep. And another eBay seller not to trust - Just needs a new fuse hah yeah right, a bit more than that. Never trust someone who claims to know what the fault is - or they would have repaired it anyway!

              Epson EB-U42 projector / Caps with 0.7 ohms ?!
              by narf
              hi all,

first of all: i'm a (motivated) newbie, so please forgive me any stupid question i may or may not ask

i'm currently repairing a projector: Epson EB-U42 that doesn't start (no lights, nothing).

              what i've found so far:
              - the PSU does its job and supplies 12V to the mainboard via the connector.
              - shortly thereafter, there is a mosfet (TS420-600B) where i can test 12V on the one side (in the data sheet this side is called Anode), Gate 0V, Kathode shorted to ground
              - not far away, there's the first cap with a resistance of 0.7 ohms....

Philips 50PUS6503 - dead panel? Picture
              by Rubenlily
              Hey,

I gave up on my last TV and got a new one to try.

Only vertical lines. Sound is OK. Screen is black with a few white lines until I change channel, then these colors gradually starts filling up the screen.

Is this fixable in any way or should I just give up on this one too?...

How can I be sure that my EC chip is dead?
              by double_DD
              Hi all,

As the title suggests, how can I be sure that my EC chip is really dead?

I've recently gotten into this hobby of laptop repairs, and have successfully brought back to life a couple with some easy fixes, mostly shorted caps.

Now I'm working on HP Probook 455 G8, that had some "devil" run around on 3V line, burning a bunch of stuff. Luckily I have a dead 455G7 (for spare parts) so I managed to fix it (swapped burned parts) to a point that it will charge (both on barrel jack and usb-c), but it doesn't want to turn on. There is a 3V3 on a keyboard...

              by Nagyesz
Hi everyone, I replaced this motherboard because it was important to get it working, but it's been with me for a very long time. Now I finally have time to figure out what the problem is,
              I've never encountered something like this before;

              No charging light, full dead
