Re: Panasonic FM good for replacing bad TV caps?
You can. But the usual culprit in the main boards on vizios are 1117 LDO voltage regulators. The tvs your getting that won't turn on, does the orange standby logo stay orage after you hit the power button. It seems the newer vizios are having corrpted eeprom issues today versus the bad LDO regulators of yesterday.Comment

Re: Panasonic FM good for replacing bad TV caps?
If they turn on vizio logo goes white but can't be turned off unless the power plug is pulled from the wall would be a very likely candidate for bad 1117 LDO voltage regulator. Before you start swapping caps get a service manual and scroll down to the dc-dc converter flowchart and check voltages. These tvs could only need a 50 cent regulator.Comment

Re: Panasonic FM good for replacing bad TV caps?
Alright, I will. Just in case of a misunderstanding, the Vizio lights up white and you DO get a screen, it's fully lit up and bright, but it just says "Vizio" in the middle of the screen and won't do anything else.Last edited by Pentium4; 07-24-2012, 07:37 PM.Comment

Re: Panasonic FM good for replacing bad TV caps?
I'll check in a couple minutes, thanks for your help so far! I don't have any 470uf 25V Panny's, would UCC KY series work? that's all I have on hand. they're taller and skinnier than the Jamicon's.Comment

Re: Panasonic FM good for replacing bad TV caps?
It doesn't hurt to check the regulators regardless only because it is a Vizio. Checking the regulators only 10 minutes or less. Well worth the time, if you ask me.--- begin sig file ---

Re: Panasonic FM good for replacing bad TV caps?
Like I said, checking them is easy and doesn't take a lot of time.
This thread also talks about the corrupt eeprom as Mr Bill mentioned in post #11.

by bulkchart32nichiconare what i used because i had heard the voltage doesn't matter as long as it is more than the original cap. i'm now reading that high voltage may make the cap's esr too high. is this a good cap for replacing those oem ones?

by momakaNormally, I never post repairs this quick after I do them, because… I am usually very slow.
But today, I’m making an exception here. Why? No idea. Perhaps only because the repair details are still “fresh” in my head… which is ironic, given this is a 16 year old monitor that hardly anyone will care about today. It is new to me, though.
I picked it up last November from someone on my local Craigslist. It wasn’t very close to where I live, but was close to a family friend that I had to go visit anyways. So after watching the posting on Craigslist for a few weeks and seeing it getting...

by momakaI know I've been a little scarce lately (like the last 2-3 years), but I'm still here and still doing my thing with fixing PSUs.
For today's considerations, I have a Seasonic B12 BC-550 [A551bcafh] 550 Watt ATX power supply for you (click on links for full size images).

It's a modern ATX unit with fixed (non-modular) cables and an 80-plus bronze certificate. Here's the label:

by Paxman_SwedeHello!
I have two projects on my work bench. One is a friends dead JBL Xtreme speaker with a blown voltage regulator and corresponding bulged and shorted cap. That cap has clear markings so I know what replacement I need for it.
The other project however is a whole different deal. It's a Zoom 9000 guitar effect from the 90th that has developed a devil hound howl when there is no input from the guitar. I'm guessing caps problem. So, since I don't really use this effect anymore I thought it would be a perfect project to learn on.
I have studied the board and...-

by ssl6Hey Everyone,
Long time lurker, but I think this is my first time posting.
Just looking for some assistance on identifying some suitable replacement capacitors for an MSI K7T266 Pro (Ver. 1.0). I just got my hands on two of them actually, both working but one has some visibly bulging capacitors and the other has a few that I can't tell for sure if they're bulging because it's faint at best if they are.
I'll be honest I don't fully understand much on capacitor spec sheets beyond voltage and capacitance but I can solder like nobodies business so I've... - Loading...
