Noob to the site, this is my first post. I have read a few threads but haven't found anything for my exact problem. I have a 50" vizio plasma tv and here are my problems: No Sound, No Picture, When plugged in it has an orange standby light lit on the front and if I push the power button the light will turn to green and click but thats it. I took the back of the tv off and noticed I had a blown cap on the Z sus board. I have replaced that blown cap with a new one, and tv still wont work. I'm open to any suggestions on the next step. Thanks!

Re: 50inch Vizio No Picture No Sound
After reading a few threads, I have done some more investigation. I plugged the tv in for about 10 min and let it stay on. Then I unplugged it, took the back off and felt the heat shield things to see if they were hot. The bottom one on the Z sus board was the only one that was warm, all others were cold to the touch. Does the power have to cycle through the Z sus before it gets to Y sus and buffers?

Do you have a digital multimeter available?
If the TV is switched on in a dark room do you see any glow from the screen? Please do not PM me with questions! Questions via PM will not be answered. Post on the forums instead!

Okay, any glow?
Start by taking a few pictures of the boards in your TV; if possible, use the Manage Attachments feature of this forum to upload them instead of an external site.
Then I can ask you to make some measurements using your meter. Please do not PM me with questions! Questions via PM will not be answered. Post on the forums instead!

Here are a few pics of the boards. On the X board the arrow shows what cap i replaced as it was blown. I must confess this was my first ever cap replacement, so is it possible to fry the board if i soldered it wrong. The square is around the only heat shield that was warm once the tv was plugged in for 10 minutes than turned off.

Can you post some closer pictures of the power connector on one sustain board? The photos are a bit fuzzy and difficult to troubleshoot with so if possible can you borrow a better camera. Please do not PM me with questions! Questions via PM will not be answered. Post on the forums instead!

Re: 50inch Vizio No Picture No Sound
Okay top two pins on X sus are your Vs voltage.
1. Unplug TV and wait 30 seconds.
2. Plug X sus power in.
3. With multimeter, stick black probe in metal frame (spare screw hole etc)
4. Place red probe in the X sus connector (press it so it touches the metal with the wire in there.)
5. Set meter to 600V or 1000V DC, or if it has it, autoranging volts DC.
6. Plug in TV and power on TV as you normally would.
7. Note down the voltage. Does it peak and fall, or does it never rise, or does it stay high? For Vs you are looking for somewhere between 170V and 210V.Please do not PM me with questions! Questions via PM will not be answered. Post on the forums instead!

Re: 50inch Vizio No Picture No Sound
Hello Everyone in Badcaps, I am a newbie, My name is John 58 years old from Baltimore MD, and I love tech, I've been building computers since about 1985, went to night school. There is nothing more satisfying to me than saving a laptop, desktop, xbox, TV etc, from the scrap pile before its time. I am not so good at TV's so that is what brings me to Badcaps.
I have a Vizio p50 HDTV10a, when powering up the screen flickers for a split second, then stays black. Three little led lights come on, 2 go out in seconds and the other goes out, then it looks like 2 relays, on the PSB click and that's it. Front power light blinks 10 times before staying yellow. it looks like LG boards,
I look forward to hearing from and getting to know all the Techie's.

240V is not correct for Va. You should be getting close to 50~70V. Or you would destroy the plasma panel. Also, Vs should be around 170~210V.Please do not PM me with questions! Questions via PM will not be answered. Post on the forums instead!
