VISIO Model VP50 HDTV 20A (screen dead)

    VISIO Model VP50 HDTV 20A

I know something like this has been covered time to time, BUT!

Can anyone shed some more on this for me.

I have no inputs going into the TV, just power.

    This is what happens.

Plug in and push power button, the power light on front goes from amber to green and stays on.

The screen does not light, Black, Black (Dead).

I removed the back, this is what I see, all capacitors look new.

Checked all ceramic fuses with VOM , all are good.

When I plug in the power cord, relays on the lower right power board (double click).

When I push the power button, again relays on the power board (double click) followed by the

logic boards LED lights 2000, 2001 and 2003 lit up, a second later logic board LED 2002 lit up

for a second and then all the logic board LED's go off and the speakers pop, followed by
LED #1 on the power board starts to blink continuously.

I have tried unplugging X and Y boards from the power supply, one at a time then all with the same above results.

Guy's any help on this would be appreciated.

Can you post a picture of your power supply and other boards? I suspect this is an AC detect failure or a sudden power supply shutdown due to the speaker pop noise.

I upload the wrong picuture , guess the old age bug is starting to bite. The sticker is actually on the back of the plasma panel inside the tv. It may be somewhere in the upper left or right corner. How long does the tv run before the speakers give a pop noise? Have you attempted to check voltages? Is there a table on the power supply showing what led #1 would be. It seems the power supply is going into protection mode.

There are two photos that I sent , one is the one your talking about.

The speakers make a slight pop like the audio amp is going on and the when the logic board LEDs go off the slight pop goes off again like the power amp is going off. I think that's all it's doing, the audio amp going on and off.
The screen never comes on at any time. I can't get to checking the voltage, the power amp is turning off to fast.

                  Thanks

Re: VISIO Model VP50 HDTV 20A (screen dead)

There are two different and popular reasons for problems in VP50HDTV20A:

One is the Y-Main sustain/buffer boards issue and that's the more popular one.

You can read more about it at our blog and here's a listing to a diagnostic/repair service:

                    http://www.coppelltvrepair.com/p/805...n-board-repair

This is the most common and also most costly repair this TV can have; in some cases it may not be worth doing it at all - it really depends on what caused the failure in the first place.

The second is a failed power supply board.

This is less common compared to the above however it also fails in several different ways.

There's a video on YouTube by a guy proudly showing two bulged capacitors in the power supply.
If you can see bulged caps go ahead and replace them - ideally yourself, but if soldering to you is what car mechanics are to me then you'd better have someone else do it. Someone local would be preferred as this is an easy task and it is not worth the shipping costs, let alone risls of breaking.

But if you have a blown fuse or no signs of failure at all then it may be more complicated and you may want to send it for repair to someone who has done it before.

Here's a link for that too:

                    http://www.coppelltvrepair.com/p/832...-on-and-off-tv

Replacing a blown fuse hardly ever helps repair a power supply. There may be exceptions, but most of the time the fuse is the last thing to fail in a chain of failures and replacing it and trying the board again just gives a few other components a chance to fail.

                    Hope this helps!
