    Hp Elitebook - Dead Screen

    Hello all,

First time posting, so please be gentle 😂

HP Elitebook 850 G2 Win 10 with Intel HD Graphics 5500.

    Screen dead, but booting.

I connected it to an external monitor via both VGA & Display Port outputs and external monitor works fine, nothing with F4 or detecting another screen in settings.

Got a replacement panel, still dead & still displayed to external screen as before.

Removed CMOS & left it. CMOS reconnected, all as before, no panel, external monitor works.

Got replacement cable & no joy with either old or new panel.

Laptop did sustain damage, as per photo; my initial thought when I saw it (Over Display Port) was that it had fried graphics, but as I said, DP working.

I removed the bottom cover & can't see any obvious damage to the underside of the board in the area of the Display Port.

Scratching my head at this stage!

    Many thanks,

    Neil

You need to dis asemble the laptop and take the mb out .
Do a physical verification first under microscope/magnifier.
If nothing suspicious, proceed to measure voltage on edp pins.
You need a sharp needle like probes to measure edp pins.

      Many thanks,

      I'll give it a go.

Finally got a chance to get back to this.

Motherboard out, no obvious signs of damage under magnification.

All pins show 0 volts with power connected except last 3 pins (opposite end of connector from pointer) which show 18.5 v which is power supply rated output.

        I think she's dead, Jim 🤣

Now realised what I didn't do was re-assemble & test again with it booted up....

Just to be sure, you are meant to measure the voltages at the edp connector for the internal screen cable. Was that what you measured ? While you have the board out, please post good pictures of the area of that connector. And also of the region around this big Display Port connector where the damage ocurred.
