It is 100% necessary to replace the SMT filter capacitor marked 2002 whenever the L5973D IC is replaced. This capacitor 2002 (100uF 25V) tends to develop high ESR without bulging or leaking. The high ESR of this capacitor is (I think) what causes the L5973D IC to fail!
I have 2 main boards for the 32MF231D which both had "blown" L5973D voltage regulators. On the first board, I replaced only the L5973D, but the new IC failed within 24 hours. On the second board I replaced capacitor 2002 also, and I am now testing this board in a TV set. If it keeps working for a couple of weeks, I think that will confirm that high ESR in capacitor 2002 is the cause of fried L5973D IC chips.
