But I should be able to jump the 5v to the ps-on with a 1k resistor, to power the board up but I don't know if that will work.

But we already know that the PS_ON is working since you are getting the correct voltage on the large cap since you had install the new Main board, right now the Inverter circuits just goes into shutdown for a reason.

So there is no way to power the board on if it's not fully plugged into the main board and grounded to the chassis?

You can turn it on as you did before using the resistor between the PS_ON and the 5v standby pin, I thought had done that before.

I was going to but had other things to test first, need to go get the resistor and give that a shot. Hopefully I can find a 1k resistor tomorrow.

So I buckled and decided to buy the power board there was only 1 in stock so I did not want to miss out on it. It was 89 +core so once I get that in we will see if it was worth it.

That is great news, thank for posting the result. By the way, what are you going with the old board, I would not mind buying from you since there are more people with the same symptom as yours, If I can figure it out then I may be able to post what I found what went wrong with the board. Ooops, I see that they charged you for the core.

This may be a long shot but I think I'm having a similar problem and I was hoping if you can advise if you think a new powerboard is the correct route for me to go.

42" VW42L Vizio LCD - When I power on the tv, the Vizio logo goes from amber to white. The backlight flashes for a second then goes off (seems to stay on for 2 seconds first time, then progressively less time each subsequent time until its just a flash). Audio works, no menu. I took the back cover off and don't see any visible damage, although when I do turn it on there is a brief static sound that happens that corresponds with the backlight being on.

Other than that, and you didn't mention this in your post, but this just didn't happen out of the blue - for several weeks my backlight would flicker in such a way that it seemed that it was slowly going out. One day it was flickering and finally just went black.

I don't have nearly the expertise you have to test all the electrical outputs so this is more of a "hoping to get lucky" option in replacing a board rather than having to pay a repair shop or buy a new tv.

Appreciate any help you can provide, -Brian

Ive got the same TV but a different problem, no 5vdc coming from PS board, tested the above mentioned cap and only have 165 volts dc, where should I look next? Also on the transformer that supplies 5 volts I have nothing on the 5 volts side and 165 on the feed side....

Since this thread got to be very long and it is hard to go back and look at all the old pictures, it will be easier for me if you will post good clear pictures of your board that way I can see if there is any simple thing I can see on YOUR board. Post both top and bottom side. Then pictures of 1/4 of the board of the so I can see real close up.

I was given this TV from my great uncle. He said it just wouldn't turn on one day out of nowhere, replaced the TV, and gave it to me to possibly fix and use for myself.

Upon bringing it home and plugging it up, it showed a standby light.

I powered it on and without a flashlight, the display showed the "V" but the lighting is very dim, but visible.

The screen seems to blackout and stay black, but with a flashlight I can see the display.

Hey guys great forum glad to have found it. I bought a Sony XBR 65X900C cheaply because it didn't work. No signs of life at all not even a light/led. All I hear is a brief high voltage sound when I throw the power to it.

Didn't see any obvious signs of damage so right away started checking voltages. This is what I see:
