I have infrared thermometer , we use to check the heat in the tires of our drag car .. that should work , i'd think . let me go grab it from the shop .
I'll check them , last time i left it on for a couple hours to see if it would show anythign different , and i am thinking nothing really had any heat to it. (when it was working this thing had heat for sure lol .

turned it on for about 20 mins ( its in my garage , and its alittle nippy tonight ) heatsinks are 67 degrees and 68 degrees on other .. hummm

Let me ask a couple more things. Should the Main board have temp in heatsinks since Va and VS was where it should be ? Is there any other voltage i need to check on the mainboard ?

Removed the main board to check the dpd side , everthing looks good on backside . With my very litle testing knowledge all i can do is ask questions , so if the PDP itself is bad , would the heaksinks on all/ any of the other boards have some decent heat in them ?

            To test Y-Buffers:

            1) Disconnect the ribbon cables to the Y-buffers, circled "blue".

            2) Disconnect the connectors, between the Y-buffers and the Y-SUS, that look like the one circled in "green".

            3) Disconnect the Y-buffers from the Y-SUS by placing a flat screw driver between the PCB boards, near the connect outside end. Apply twisting pressure until it unseats a little. Move to the end of the connect and repeat.
Continue this for the next connector. Go slow and gentle, until the connectors seperate.

            4) With the Y-buffers out, test one buffer at a time. Set DMM to continuity test, page 14 of Fluke 80 series III manual.

            5) Place one probe to any lead circled in "red" then slowly run the other probe down each side of the connect circled in "blue". Do this for the other connect, the one with the "red" circle.

Thank you very much cmj21973 , I did this ( with beep feature on ) and got NO beep . I also check the backside of board to be sure and and no beeps . that was the UP board , i checked the LOW board ( pin layout is reversed for ground) also got NO beeps .
So at this point it seems the Main board is showing correct voltage on VA and VS , and the buffers ( up/low ) seem to be good .

I check the remaining voltages on the main board 12v , 33v 5v , ect. all came out fine . I removed a couple of the boards and checked the ceramic fuses all were good ...... I tried to enter service mode and nothing apppeared on the screen either

Iam now wondering , since the kids were watching it when it went out , if somehow theysome how they managed to disable it from showing any video lol .... Is there a way to see if the pdp itself is bad ?

Does the screen glow, at all, in a dark room?

No , in a pitch black room when i turn power on i wouldn't even know it came on except for the green led under the screen.. and the sound .

Not giving up yet , So questions :

                      1) Should the Main board/ power supply board have heat roughly the same across the board with what my tv doing what its doing ? ( right side last heatsink staying 77 degrees ..... The Y main board heat sinks are 76 and 78 /// the x main heatsinks are 81 and 78 .

                      2) If the PDP is bad .. what else can i check to verify it is ? ( iam still thinking pdp board or logic) IF PDP is would there still be heat in the y and x main boards .

                      3) Any spots i should check on y and x board with DMM ?

Does either sustain buzz? Is the buzzing quite loud or about normal for a plasma TV? (Estimate it yourself...)

Not at all , i do hear a faint, very faint buzz from the main power board ( not audible if 10 to 12 inches away )

Also quick note , after removal of x and y board to recheck cables and see if i missed any bad caps , I reinstalled and now get a brief white light on the lower left side of panel , If that makes sense ..

That signifies a good plasma panel and also very likely to be an X-main issue.

Can you post a picture of the DP42545 remote?

Depending where you're located, I might be interested in the set also.

If anyone on this forum has the stand (legs) for Sanyo DP42545 to spare please let me know.
