    Element ELCHW261 White screen

Picked up a chepo Element ELCHW216 26" LCD and if I can save it I wanna use it as a Second Monitor!

It powers up but goes just to white screen. removed the back and there dosent appear to be any suspect caps jumping out at me or any traces of heat on any of the boards the one fuse tests good. I cant verify sound I did hook the hdmi up and attempt to scroll the sorce button but cant tell what input I am on???

any Ideas on what to look at first?

I assume this is a shared board with other Cheapo Tvs??

Sometimes these LCDs have a t-con (timing control) board. From the logic/main board, follow the cable upwards toward top of the LCD. Sometimes the t-con is underneath metal shielding.

On t-con, there may be a SMD fuse and it could be open.

If this LCD doesn't have a t-con, then there will be a panel board that runs the entire length of the TV. On that panel board, there may be a fuse as well.

PS. In the future, we generally want pics as close to 2000x2000 as possible. 640x480 is too small to see any detail.

Also, we want an overall backside picture of the entire TV so we know how the boards are connected and their relationship to each other. Then we want a close up of each individual board.

If you are new to this forum, we can help a lot more if you please post clear focused pictures (max resolution 2000x2000 and 2MB) of your boards using the manage attachments button so they are hosted here. Information and picture clarity compositions should look like this post.

We respectfully ask that you make some time and effort to read some of the guides available for basic troubleshooting. After you have read through them, then ask clarification questions or report your findings.

Please do not post inline and offsite as they slow down the loading of pages.

I was waiting for you to report on the results of following retiredcaps advice.

That may be the board in question. It's usually bigger than a tiny board though as it has logic on it for decoding LVDS signals and providing the correct signals to the LCD panel. Are you sure you aren't missing it? Could be hidden under some shielding etc...

I've "repaired" two of these with white screens. Both had loose cables @ the screen from the mainboard. Got them from a big box store returns liquidation auction for $20 for 3 of them. I have another with white screen but the cables are fine and continuous...so tracing away at it.

See pic, other end of circled cable was loose on two machines.

How do you know if it is loose, and then if it is how do you tighten it back up so it functions properly?

I am new to electronics so I am really wanting to learn and am having this issue as well.

What he was talking about was not loose so much as not pushed in all the way. Be careful when pushing it in, support the underside of the board with your other hand. Circuit boards if flexed too much can break or traces can break. If this does not fix your tv then start a new thread (on the main troubleshooting page) and take good, focused top down pictures of all of your boards front and back. Also take one picture of all of your boards hooked together (how it looked when you first took the back off). The pictures need to be as close as possible to 2000 x 2000 dpi, but not exceeding that. We want to be able to see the writing on the boards.
Have you ever stopped to think and then forget to start thinking again?

Maybe these pictures will help (They are large on my computer. I'm not sure how they will translate)

When pushing it back in, is it more of a downward push like towards the bottom of the tv? or inward towards the screen?
