    Re: Vizio sv420m black screen

Someone on these forums had a similar issue with a shorted cap on the T-con pulling down 12V.

Does 12V come up if the power board is disconnected from the main board?
No. No 12V at all when disconnected from main board.

Did you see if U6 is shorted "in circuit"?

I checked resistances, there is no real difference than the others.

What is the usual way that the PS_ON voltage gets conditioned? Is that made from the main 5v? Is it fed from a processor on the mainboard?

I dont know where to go from here. The worse thing is I think the problem is with the main board but I'm not sure enough to order one.

Try powering it up without the T-con connected.

Tried it and still no PS_ON voltage. No change of Vizio light in front.

Is 12V present on the power board without the t-con connected?

No 12V either with the Tconn disconnected. That is, if that is supposed to be present with an amber vizio light.

On page 24 of the service manual, it shows that this voltage isnt present until the unit is turned on.

Any more things to try? It's hard for me to order a board at this point cause I still dont know which one is bad. If you have a clue, let me know which one I should order and why.

I was working like crazy so I put this one to the side for a little bit.

I read somewhere that you can jumper the 5V to the PS-ON to get the power board to show the other voltages. Does this sound like a smart move???

I never updated my situation on this TV. I purchased a replacement mainboard ($30) and it fixed my problem. I didn't take any readings on the new board, I just popped it in and it worked.

I currently have one more TV on the bench that I am working on and I think that will be the end for me with TV's. These two, 42 Vizio LCD and 32 insignia LCD, are going to be mounted in my basement and 2nd bedroom. This would be four total that I kept from repair work. The other two are 42 Samsung Plasma and a 32 Memorex LCD.

$30 for a mainboard would be nice, where did you get one for that price? I have same model tv but trying to repair the mainboard.

That was ebay. Sometimes you get lucky and see that someone is selling one cheap. That TV still works. I gave it to my mom.
