Power Surge & now LNT4032HX/XAA Not Powering on - Clicks

Hey guys this is the second Samsung LCD of mine to go out within the past 2 months. The damages to this one is to blame on a thunderstorm we had over the weekend causing a power surge. I was not home when the lighting struck the house but it has left my LNT4032HX/XAA not able to power on. My wireless router along with cable modem were all connected to the same surge protector and no longer function correctly. Also the video card on my PC which was connected to the Samsung LCD is no longer functioning.

When I plug in the power to the back of the TV the unit automatically attempts to power on. Red light in front flashes and you can hear a click inside the unit. The tv will attempt to cycle through a couple times making a click and popping sound from the speakers but no picture is displayed on the monitor.

I opened the unit and inspected the capacitors and none of which looked damaged, bulged, blown or leaking any fluids. However I decided anyway to replace 4 capacitors with Radio shack part 272-1032 1000uf 35V
    CS806
    CM812
    CM811
    CM817

Problem still persists and does not power up. If I connect the power cord the unit immediatley attempts to power on without pressing the power button. I am able to hear a click and then a couple pops from the speaker and the unit turns itself off and repeats this process.

My question is would replacing the IP board on the unit be the next step to correct my power on problem?

Radio Shack capacitors are no good because they are not low ESR. Put back the original ones.

Your problem sounds like a power supply issue. I suggest taking pictures of the TV and uploading them here as a start.

      Thanks for the reply Momaka.

I used the Radio Shak caps because that is what people with issues of not properly powering on fixed their problem with, however I will swap them back out to the standard.

Is the power supply located on the main board or IP board?

As soon as the power cord is plugged in the unit turns itself on with a click and the red light flashes, then I hear a couple pops from the speakers and the unit clicks off like its powering down. Within a couple seconds the unit repeats itself in this power up process without me even pressing the power button on the front.

The power cord is the only thing plugged into the unit.

The unit makes the same click sound when it used to work fine however I am getting nothing from the screen.

I am wondering if replacing the main board along with the IP board would be a proper attempt to fix this problem?

I am not sure if pictures would help for this matter since there is no problem with the screen and the boards look fine. However I will attach some shots of the board.

As seen in the first picture I am able to hear a slight clicking sound under the large heat shield.

I removed the ribbon cable in the top left of the power board and plugged power to the unit. This time the unit did not power itself on or produce a click when turning on. I was not able to get any signal from the contact points using my volt meter, I also tried different ground points. However you would think its putting out some voltage if the unit makes the click when the cable is plugged in. Any ideas?

Check the schottky diodes at the output area, It might get damaged. IT will be installed at the HEAT SINK that's near the power ribbon cable

Which picture are you using as a reference? Are the pins on the connector labeled (i.e. ground, 5v, 5vsb, PS-On, etc.)? If so, can you post the labels.

Yes, it should be putting out voltage on at least one pin. In most cases, this pin is labeled with a voltage followed by "SB" or "STB" for Standby.
For a ground point, any metal part on the TV's chassis should do.

Replacing the main board corrected my problem and the unit now powers on properly. Thanks so much for the advice!

Could someone please recommend the proper replacement capacitors that would be a better solution than the radio shack caps?

Panasonics are some of the best one's available and can be bought at Digi-key.
