Yeah yeah i know this thing isnt worth fixing because it was like only $40 new.. but what the heck. I save some good used components for a case like this.. also sorry i dont have pics, i took some with my krappy camera and they just did not turn out.
I picked this up out of the trash, hell, 2 years ago mabye heh and just found it again.
When powered on led would turn blue, but tray would not eject and video was fuzzy if it worked at all.
Found one blown 1000uf/10v cap on the power supply. And i mean blown, top and bottom vented..
Following the traces it appears its the main filter cap for the +12v.
I stuck in a good used rubycon 1200uf/35v just because its what i had laying around, and voila all voltages in spec now, tray works, video is perfect. Watching mr deeds now
THe cap i pulled out is some weired brand ive never seen before. Its sad to think that even dvd players are not immune to bad caps.
I figured i would share the fix for this particular case. ALso fyi ive fixed one of these probhably 3 or 4 years ago with the dvd tray that would not move but worked otherwise. It was an easy fix- the belt for the tray was broken.
