    20N60C3 question

    Hi,

Anyone know of a substitute for the Infineon 20N60C3, TO-247 case?
Their part number is SWP20N60C3. Tried to order a SWP24N60C3 from Digikey, but they sent the wrong part and I'm not sure they have any more.
Is this part a common fault?
I'm working on an SMPS from a Vizio L37HDTV and that part is checking slightly leaky with my Sencore transistor / fet tester. That is the only thing that seems bad on the board. All caps have good ESR and value.
The 12 V and 24 V supplies don't come up when the 3 volts are present. The 5 volt supply is working.
The set originally took longer and longer to turn on.
    Thanks.

    Mike

    Re: 20N60C3 question

i can't help you with this, but i'm also looking for a substitute.
i've got a 24V 5A power brick where the infineon "coolMOS" 20N60C3 (TO220) burned up. got hot enough to burn a nice mark into the aluminum heatsink and turn the TO220 tab purple..

wasn't able to find it anywhere except on ebay from who knows where for insane prices. most electronics suppliers have it listed, but out of stock

The w is for to-247 package. 20amp continuous, n channel, 600 volts. Digikey doesn't have this part #, but they have a few in the to-247 case (filter) and there are a few listed, but $10 is about the cheapest. Does it have to be a 247 case?

The data on these is fairly close at $4.44 each, but the in stock are to-220. The coolmos are metal oxide which I guess is why there aren't many subs.

Sorry, I transposed two letters in the part number. The SPW20N60C3 is the TO-247 case style and that is what I have.
Do you think the heat dissipation would be the same mounting a different case style part in the same location?

I would think so. The infineon site says these are up to C6 series and they don't make a 247 case in the new series. Digikey list your # as obsolete. bdent.com has your # at $10.35

I think I may have found a sub but at a higher cost. Currently, I'm looking at Digikey part number IPW60R075CPIN-ND Digikey has stock and it looks like this is Infineon's newer technology. The specs look more rugged to me - am I missing anything? Input capacitance is higher - does that matter that much?
                Comments please!

                    Toasty,

Thanks for the info. Hopefully, I'll get the right part from Digikey when I speak with them tomorrow. Arrow's prices are good, looks like shipping is a flat $8.

The TO220, TO220F and TO247 are the popular packages for power devices because of their versatility and ability to dissipate moderate amounts of heat. This application note describes the basic guidelines for handling power MOSFETs in TO220, TO220 and TO247 packages shown in Figure 1. Please note that only mechanical and soldering guidelines are covered here. Additional precautions are required for isolating high voltage rated devices to meet safety regulations.

How to choose a substitute mainboard
                      by learnmore
                      Hello again Community

Anyone verse on how you go about choosing a substitute mainboard for your TV repair. Like the chap in the video below sometimes a 1:1 replacement board is too expensive and reballing a mainchip(s) maybe outside of your skillset . In the video the poster states one needs to match the replacement board with the SMPS, T-con (if not built in) and panel (and substitute cabling be also be required).

I'm very interested in choosing a suitable replacement board for any model or make of TV and the general (or detailed if your willing) step this entails....

I have a question regarding one of these lenovo laptops. I have a thinkpad p1 gen 3 20th-ct01ww. Recently I've had 2 that after windows updates, it no longer detects the battery. I have tried rolling back the bios update and that didnt fix it. Is this something that requires modifying the original bios to fix or is it bios related at all ? Is this issue common. thanks.

                      by aprilmixtape
I recently ordered a CH341a to try and fix my 2021 Tuf Dash F15 after seeing a video about Asus laptops being diagnosed as having fried mobos when they have corrupted bios. After following the steps from a YouTube video and flashing the IC chip (W25R128JVSQ; detected as a W25Q128BV on AsProgrammer) the laptop booted up for the first time in 2 years. I looked around my room for the M.2 drive I had removed from it and as soon as I came back the laptop had turned off. I assumed it automatically turned off due to inactivity but when I pressed the power button, the backlight and power button would...

                      Hello first,
I have a problem. I can no longer log into my bios as an administrator. I had created a user account in the bios so that I can start the PC normally and an admin account to manage the bios. Without admin access it is not possible to change the boot sequence or the like. This was actually intended as security in case the laptop was stolen or I lost it so that nobody could access the data. I had saved the password on a YubiKey 5c. This normally just entered the password bluntly when I pressed the button.
But now the mainboard tells me that this password is wrong.
