    vizio up in smoke!

My fine (tongue in cheek) vizio/samsung vp50hdtv20a blew a (y sus) buffer today.
It was hit by lightning in may of 2010, came in threw the antenna connection out the ac line. I repaired it with a power supply module and main signal module from ebay. The set was built in 2008, Should I change both upper and lower buffer boards? I am very temped to fire it up with OUT the lower buffer board in to check out the panel mains. All the fuses are good including the pico's
The set was on when I left the room when I came back there was a smell of burnt semiconductor in the air, Most of us here know the smell all too well.
I haven't applied power since the set shut its self down when the buffer failed.
Didn't want to cause more damage. thoughts, comments

In la-la land? Sony and Vizio are two different companies. The LJ41-04217A is used in several Vizio plasma TVs, but no Sony TVs as far as I can determine.

As far as a schematic - not very likely.

I have removed upper buffer boards and turned tvs back on and just had half a panel work then I would know the y drive was ok. The tv wouldn`t go into protect mode once I removed the bad buffer board. This may not work on all models. It has worked for me.

A bad buffer can take out a y drive which can also take out the power supply.

Thanks, cadiman thats all I needed to hear. I put the Y drive and what appeared to be a good buffer and...I got half of an pix. looks like i can get by with just a lower buffer. Sorry plainbill I meant vizio/samsung, I am old.

So am I. It's rough, but it beats the alternative.

yes change both theres a guy down in texas i found him on ebay he rebuilt both of mine i had to send them to him the y and z board he has the right machine to take out the big glued down chip if one goes out the other might take 6 months after you fix one to burn out,so have both rebuilt,I can not remember his name yet he's all over on ebay i do remember he was in texas,it cost me about $175.00 and the worked great,or you can go to vizparts.com they have the best parts a z or y board the'll charge you $200.00 each that's $400.00 for both as this guy in texas will charge you $175.00 for both
