Can someone tell me what this brown/caramel colored stuff is at the bottom of my power supply board? It looks like burns, but I was thinking that it's a special coating they put on the circuit boards? Ignore the blurriness in the photos....just was trying to give an idea of what i'm talking about. It covers almost the whole board but mainly just around the solder points.

This is an LG edge LED lit LCD Display. The LEDs are on the bottom edge of the display. There are 2 bars (left and right) Each bar has many LEDs and a 6 pin connector. Each pin drive several LEDs thus is the highest current flow / heat junction. The weak lead free solder gradually fails with thermal expansion/contraction cycling and increases resistance. PSU will compensate up to a point, then when the current is too high, PSU just shut down the backlight causing a dark display. I have even seen one which the connector just fell off as solder points became completely detached....-

by harpI thinking to modify some ATX ver 1 supply, and wonder what if I connect 10k pot on 12v and center tap on brown wire? What range of 3.3v correction can to expect, or something will blow up if I close to rails, leave narrow 3.3v range?
It is KA7500B ic, but 3v3 sense is connected to TL431, I am not sure there is any connection between. -

by sudz28I'm going to assume my beloved Magnavox CRT is toast, but also figured maybe this was a good opportunity to dip my toes into he circuitry waters and maybe learn something new. Also, I don't want to trash it if it's a fairly cheap/easy fix!
My 20-year-old Magnavox has gotten me and my kids through many a gaming console change and worked great up until the other day. Following a long distance move, it sat in our garage for a year and now that I brought it in and turned it on I get no picture; instead, a green light blinks on the front of it; 7 flashes, one long flash, then 3 more... - Loading...
