Re: Database of UPS inverter output waveforms @ HWI
Can you get a Tripp-lite G1000U? (Supposedly 1000va (120v) modified sine wave output) .. http://www.amazon.com/TrippLite-G1000U-Digital-Battery-Backup/dp/B002UGOEB8/ref=cm_cr_arp_d_product_top?ie=UTF8
Would love to see how it does.... the unit I have has held up well (despite the three negative reviews on Amazon) but I do notice that the SMPS "wall wart" for my wireless router makes an odd buzzing sound when on UPS....
The unit I have is at least 7 years old and is only on it's second...

Re: Looking for resistor
Do I understand this right, you are going to spend close to 3/4 of a million dollars on a renovation, and you feel that $10k (roughly 1.6% more) is too much to add to ensure your (and your family's) safety and keep from losing that $650k+ investment in renovation costs?
Or, is the question in this thread just a (very) temporary setup until the renovations are being done?
I am concerned as with over 30 years as an electrician and LV/AV installer the pics (Post #7 in this thread here: https://www.badcaps.net/forum/showthread.php?t=52762...Last edited by mxslick; 03-13-2016, 11:14 PM.

Re: Looking for resistor
First, as was already mentioned in the other thread, you need to get a licensed electrician in there to correct all of the serious wiring issues.
Second, I suggest you find an experienced LV/alarm installer. The conditions you have going on puts this task over your head..and the use of that resistor can create a safety hazard if not done correctly.
The time that will be saved and the reduction/elimination of the hazards present will be worth the extra cost.

Re: Kent TR36 Golf cart charger
Looks like the power transformer is cooked...you should try to check it before powering it up again. Measure resistance of each set of windings, and from ALL terminals to the transformer frame.
All the damage is either from the triac failure, or a short in the transformer, or even possibly an overvoltage on the incoming AC line (spike, surge or lightning strike..)...

Re: MACKIE PPM608 repair
Not so fast.
Depending on the DC voltage rails to the amplifier section, it is very possible that it is well capable of 500 watts.
Conversion from the 120vac line down to the DC voltages can be pretty efficient with SMPS, and since the rating is probably for a 4ohm load, it is quite possible to be a valid spec.
That said, Mackie is one of the more reputable companies. They aren't prone to exaggerating the power out.
BUT, P.A. gear is usually rated to peak output, not RMS (as...

Re: Cheap eBay MP3 players - how to reduce noise ?
I see two things that could be causing the noise issues:
First, all of the flux residue all over the boards.
Second, some crappy soldering.
I would clean all the flux residue off of the boards and touch up any solder joints that aren't nice and shiny.
Try that and let us know how it goes.

Re: Dim Clock LCD on Jenn-Air wall oven
That is a magnet commonly used with alarm switches....the pic shows the magnet half.
You might have another part in the vicinity that looks exactly like that in the pic, but with two wires coning out of one end.
What connections are you referring to? Get a pic of those connections so we can see what is going on....

Re: LG W2243S close to dead...
Look closely at the underside of the board in the area of the cap (lower left part of the full size pic, near the word "Danger") you can see a burned spot on or near the traces. :
There's either some junk on the board that is causing a short, or something leading off that trace which is shorted....

Re: Brown Stuff on magnavox 42mf231d
It's left-over soldering flux residue. It can be cleaned off without too much difficulty. I used to use denatured alcohol to clean boards.

Re: harmon/kardon sub-ts14 makes high-pitched squeal sound
Ok, the last post was helpful in that it stopped "working" after a rain storm. That, and the burned solder joint on the resistor leads me to believe that the 4700uf main filter caps have failed. Change them first.
And since there are so few other caps on that main board I'd recap all of them to be sure.
But I feel that replacing the two main filter caps will solve the problem.

Re: What happens to cheap Caps after 30 years in a hot console?
Hmm, I wouldn't really call caps that lasted 30 years "cheap" or bad, I'm willing to bet that even the current favs are not gonna last anywhere near 30 years. And remember that cap technology has evolved since 30 years ago.
Many items, be it audio gear or other electrical products, that are more than 20-30 years old are still around today, and you can be sure that NONE of the junk made today will be around 30 years from now.

Re: Yamaha amplifier emx512sc
It was intended to be humorous and not insulting...no offense was intended. It is a pic I have used on other forums when an OP isn't clear or understandable. Apologies to anyone who was offended.
kc8adu made a valid point..the OP is not clear and pictures would be helpful....Last edited by mxslick; 12-02-2010, 02:51 PM.

Re: Onkyo TX-SR705- No Sound
First off, I have to say that since you admit you don't know what you are doing, you need to stop and send this out to someone who does know. You can very easily cause a lot more damage, hurt yourself or cause a fire or shock hazard.
Additionally, if the output transistors are bad, you need the test equipment and knowledge to reset the bias levels and make sure that ALL of the defective parts are found and replaced..otherwise you'll be doing the repair all over again (if you don't destroy the unit or start a fire).
And...

Re: Linear Vs Switching Supplies In Audio Equipment
QSC Audio has had a few lines of high-powered, high quality audio amplifiers using switching power supplies.
Here's a LINK to the cinema products line I use. Great amps, super reliable, nice price point and light in weight.Re: Linear Vs Switching Supplies In Audio Equipment

Re: samsung ht-z120 home cinema service manual
Check your output transistors, one or more are shorted. If you have one of those IC modules for an amplifier, it is bad.
Some pics would help.

Re: Purpose of Beat Cancel switch
That is correct...it will help reduce/eliminate the whistling on AM , but does not help for impulse static....
