    LG LV880 VCR issues

Today, I was transferring a bunch of old VHS tapes to DVD using this VCR and a DVD recorder. Unfortunately, one of the tapes had clearly snapped in the past and been stuck back together with sticky tape. Usually this doesn't cause too much of a problem, but I think the adhesive on the sticky tape had degenerated over the years. Looking at the splice later on, I noticed a little bit of powder that may either be loose oxide on the tape, or the remains of the adhesive.

When the splice passed the heads, the picture and sound completely disappeared. Not having a usable head cleaning tape, I decided to run some fairly new, 'clean' tapes (no splices or dirty bits) back and forth for a while until eventually the picture came back.

However, the VCR is not picking up the Hi-Fi Stereo signal on any of my tapes now, and the mono sound I get is slightly wobbly. In addition, the picture quality is not quite as good as it was before. I've ran tapes to the end and back to see if I can dislodge any dirt on the heads, but it's pretty much the same no matter what I do now.

I've tried both tapes originally recorded with this VCR, and store-bought movie tapes. Both produce a slightly poorer picture, and no stereo Hi-Fi sound.

Do you think that the VCR just needs a good clean (perhaps opening it up and cleaning the heads manually), or has the Hi-Fi stereo head been damaged beyond repair? There is no Hi-Fi sound at all, not even intermittently, and that may be a bad sign. Should I see if I can get hold of a new head cleaning cassette? If so, should I go for the wet or dry type?
You know there's something wrong when you open your PC and it has vented Rubycons...

I would run a liquid cloth head cleaner tape through it and see what it does, or manually clean them. I doubt you damaged them beyond repair, but if it scratched it it "may" be possible.

Definitely a liquid cleaner, and I bet all will be well. You could pop the cover and use 95% isopropyl alcohol with a soft (chamois) swab as well.

        Problem

This is an LG edge LED lit LCD Display. The LEDs are on the bottom edge of the display. There are 2 bars (left and right) Each bar has many LEDs and a 6 pin connector. Each pin drive several LEDs thus is the highest current flow / heat junction. The weak lead free solder gradually fails with thermal expansion/contraction cycling and increases resistance. PSU will compensate up to a point, then when the current is too high, PSU just shut down the backlight causing a dark display. I have even seen one which the connector just fell off as solder points became completely detached....

LG 75UN8570AUD panel issue fixed with tape.
        by triplefour
I've been seeing a lot of the new TVs (samsung and LG only i think) maybe 1-2 years old suffering from sudden panel death and have been over 50% successful bringing them at least most of the way back to functionality if not all the way, with the tape masking of the LVDS pins method.
add this one to the list. the issue was on the left side of the panel and i ended up blocking just 3 pins on the connector that joins the two panel boards that make up the left side of the panel (it has 4 boards total) i didnt get the picture back to 100% perfect. i spent hours fiddling with which pins to block...

IBM LTO 7 Tape Drive - Dust Sensors??
        by RetroComputingGrotto
I have a Quantum SuperLoader robotic tape library that uses an IBM LTO 7 tape drive which is constantly complaining that it needs cleaning. If you insert a cleaning tape, it performs the clean and resets the cleaning counter to 0 hours. It should only require cleaning every 50 or so working hours but after as little as just 1 hours use it requests cleaning. We've purchased a new cleaning tape along with new LTO backup tapes but that has not resolved the problem.

I have taken the library apart and can see no noticeable signs of dust inside. I have removed the tape drive from the...

Hi, trying to troubleshoot some problems with this laptop I just finished repairing which had power issues (Burnt Buck converter - SY8883DFC shorted to ground).

After repairing the above issue, I realized the following remaining problem,
Sound only comes from bottom speakers, top palmrest speakers don't work. Neither does the headphone jack (static/buzzing).
The computer recognizes headphones are connected and displays a popup in windows
Sometimes, the computer will boot up and the sound will be working fine. However, if I run intensive programs and the computer...

Lenovo IdeaPad Gaming 3 15ACH - Ideapad 3 well known solder joint issues
        by Nagyesz
I have a Lenovo IdeaPad Gaming 3 15ACH, which has started exhibiting the well-known issues of the Lenovo IdeaPad 3.

All stress tests run perfectly, and there are no performance issues. However, the solder joints are almost certainly starting to fail. If the top two screws on the back are not screwed in, moving the screen results in a BSOD or, in some cases, a slight artifact and freeze. This is a 2023 notebook..

How can I extend its lifespan? Could reflow help?

It has ryzen 5 5500h, rtx 2050, no soldered ram.

        Example of the artifacts:
