Not all Sony TVs will have backlighting without a connected panel (matrix).

I believe he means for you to test it with full access to backlights and without the screen/panel hooked up.

I can easily tear the TV down again. Taking screen off is intimidating but not impossible.bhow am I supposed to test the LEDs all the way at the end? Flip it up and just plug it in again? Okay fair enough.

Diah, how do i test the LEds if it's all broken down. Or the ribbons?

Tear it back down, these tvs aren't that great anyway, picture quality is pretty shitty, if it were me, it has become a quest to figure out this hair pulling-out mystery OR you could just it.

you were hurry to put back the screen back... because with out screen the tv and BL would work if every things good..
6 blink BL... you changed them but you didnt have the BL tested before the screen... so now its usless to find the issue... if one or ribbon LED damaged or lost connection will drive you to same issue... you were very hurry and this way cant solve TV repair....

for clean trouble shooting and repair my way will be start from zero.. screen out

Saw a video of Nick struggling with an xbr mainboard, he had to change out the eMMC, another ic and the hdmi ic.

I absolutely hate these xbr's, still have my pos xbr that needs eMMC probably at least, maybe more.

These ones with 2 or 3 of every board are complicated, maybe check all the solder joints on the other powerboard, might have some bad ones.

By prove it, do you mean force the on voltage for second PSU? I don't know how to do that to the second board. This is what I get on LED PSU output. And these numbers only change after 5 seconds by dropping to zero after TV detect error and want to flash red.

Nothing happens that's different. TV power is hit, supplies ALL correct voltage on main power board. Bl-ERR goes to .6volts then within a couple seconds goes to 3.3 volts. I have tried disconnecting the main board from PSU and jumped BL on Pwr ON and TCON on. When doing this all correct volts happen, BL never turns on either and this cycle never changes at all. It does the exact same thing every time. Except for when I disconnect the TCON cables from MB to tcon and the MB to LED driver, then the TV turns "on" at least I have sound anyway. But still nothing anywhere changes.

The LED PSU never supplies the 35 or 70v (not sure cause never happened) to the LED driver board. It does get 35 v on some of the rails at startup and then BL err happens and the voltage drops. It's steady for a bit

Here's Bobby doing a stand alone test, I have also done it on sonys, prove the powerboard then can eliminate it from being a suspect: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=EC4d8sCeS4w

So where does it stand, have you done the powerboard stand alone test and did it pass?

It only gets 12v from LED driver. Nothing for voltage ever hits the fuse

Caps don't turn on, the IC chips start to get hot, and the cpu chips or whatever start to get hot also per thermal imaging and then just get that blinking code and they shut down

Vizio e601i-A3 - Has Sound and Display, But No Backlight - Bad Power Supply Board or Bad LED Bulbs ?
    by Tynan Dill
I was given this TV from my great uncle. He said it just wouldn't turn on one day out of nowhere, replaced the TV, and gave it to me to possibly fix and use for myself.

Upon bringing it home and plugging it up, it showed a standby light.

I powered it on and without a flashlight, the display showed the "V" but the lighting is very dim, but visible.

The screen seems to blackout and stay black, but with a flashlight I can see the display.

With my Playstation 4 connected via HDMI, and running a game I can hear sound.

    Assuming...

Hi, this is my personal laptop, which the original board (lets call it Board A) blew up PU8700 (TPS51486), making a hole on the board, i had left the laptop at my desk one day with the battery fully charged and didn't touch it for a week, but when i tried to turn it on it didn't
Thought the battery was dead, so i plugged in the charger then tried to power on, the power LED blinked once, charged LED still orange, unplugged the charger, plugged in again and I noticed the "magic smoke" smell, so i unplugged the charger, removed the back cover and saw the blown IC (the "magic...

Sony RB2G Chassis KDL-55W815B MAIN BOARD 2 Blink Error issue resolved! Happy days :)
    by cheeky2
For anyone interested just repaired this Sony Main board TV that had a 2 blink error code, the chassis is a RB2G which is common to quite a few different Sony models. The Ceramic 10uF 25V X7R 1206 capacitor C9114 was shorted which took the smd 2A 0603 fuse out F9101. This was powering the Buck converter TPS54332 which caused no 5V output from it.
See the attached picture of the locations of both components. I also attach the best service manual I found for this board for anyone else in a similar position of trying to repair this main board. It's not specific to the TV model however it gives...

    Sony xbr-65x900c main board issues?
    by jb_Bak
Hey guys great forum glad to have found it. I bought a Sony XBR 65X900C cheaply because it didn't work. No signs of life at all not even a light/led. All I hear is a brief high voltage sound when I throw the power to it.

Didn't see any obvious signs of damage so right away started checking voltages. This is what I see:
Power Board Connector that goes to Main board
    CN6401
    Pin 01 NC
    Pin 02 NC
    Pin 03 "BL_ON": 0V
    Pin 04 "N/C"
    Pin 05 "STBY 3.3V": 3.5V
    Pin 06 "GND": N/C
    Pin 07 "AC_OFF"...

TCL 55S425 few horizontal lines, potential failure on both side of panel/buffer board
    by howardc64
All left and right refers to looking from rear of TV (or looking from front with TV upside down)
    • TV came with vertical bars and no image. Found faulty TVS on left buffer board. Also replaced T-Con (may have damaged the original while hot air removing components, board has slight warp) and have full image but few horizontal lines on the screen. Some of the lines appears to be 2 pixel tall while others are 1 pixel tall.
    • Disconnecting left and right buffer board potentially reveals problems on both sides with different signals (unless this T-Con require jumper like Samsung FB_TRDY1&3) Fault
