Sony XBR-75X940D on its way out???

I have a Sony XBR-75X940D. Had it since 2017 and never had a problem out of it. Recently it has been having power issues. Namely it would not Power On when activated via the Remote control. I would have to go to the physical button on the back to turn it on. Once its one its doesnt give me any issues.

Recently, i caught it turning itself on from an off state. It started as if it rebooted (ANDROID) logo. I saw it do that once. On a few occasion when I got up to turn it on manually it would start up from the same ANDROID boot screen. Normally the TV is supposed to be in a standby state. Asleep / Hibernation but still booted and ready to go.

On 3 occasion over the last 2 months Ive had to fully unplug and replug the TV's power cord in order to get it to start.

ALso on a few occasions the TV would start up and cut off within 5-10 seconds even before an image displays on the screen.

The only thing (other than age) I can think of is the fact that it all started sometime after connecting it to an Apple TV 4k and activating/using e-ARC for control and sound.

The AppleTV setup is the only thing connected to the TV so I dont want to remove it and test whether the gremlins go away until i have eliminated anything simpler.

The TV does not cut on and off randomly. By far the main and most prominent symptom is it not starting predictably via remote control.

The IR signal comes from a Logitech HUB and remote. This has been the case for several years now. I tried controlling the TV via Wi-Fi but that was too unreliable.

One thing i will try is using the original TV remote for a while to see if the issue continues.

While I do this can anyone propose some possibilities based on cases they have come across with the XBRs?

I have already factory reset the TV.

    Thank you in advance!

disconnect the local keyboard and test the tv for some time or until the problem happens

maybe try not using the e-ARC for a test, I don't use it, it's a pain in the ass for me, it always wants to turn things on and off, like every time I want to turn off the surround and just use tv speakers it shuts the tv off, then gotta turn tv back on. I would rather have to use 5 different remotes than deal with that, another guess is maybe your on/off button on your remote is not working correctly or sticking sometimes.

Re: Sony XBR-75X940D on its way out???

Guys I wanted to report back on my findings.
I took both @Davi.p's and @nomoresonys' advice but I was still getting reboot issues.

The issue made itself more pronounced actually and that is what helped me see certain issues that led me to solution.

What I noticed is the TV would reboot after a Power On command from a remote control source. It would never reboot when the power button was physically press (but it would often take a few button presses to make it turn on).

Im talking full on reboot to the Androind/Sony boot screen.
When a Power On command from a remote was received, it would activate (status light would turn on, but LED backlight would not come on) then after a few seconds it just rebooted. Once it rebooted I didnt have much of a problem with it. Until recently as the TV would take a while to respond to key commands from the remote.

I went searching the web again trying different search phrases.
The one that got is was "sony x940d reboots when turned on"

One of the top results was a Sony reddit forum where ppl described having the same or a nearly identical issue.

The solution is found in this article: Bravia TV reboots which describes the behavior in a different Bravia but the solution worked.

They say to enable a feature called "Simple IP Control" under the Networking tab. This did the trick for me! Not only has the TV fired right up everytime since without issue or reboots the TV feels very snappy to my commands with the remote. Before it was incredibly laggy and sluggish.

To assess this settings in the X940D (and similar models) you go to Setting>>Network>>Home Network>>IP Control and then you toggle the "Simple IP Control" switch to ON.

From what I am seeing from other forums, the Simple IP Control option must be enabled in order for certain non-factory remotes to work properly in certain modes (Wifi in particular).

As I mentioned i never had an issue with my TV before as I had it as basically a dumb monitor (Wi-Fi off and never using any of the Android apps or user interface at all). It stayed on one input and that was it. Almost everything was done via connected devices or via the HT receiver.

My universal remote which i have been using with the TV for years (Logitech Harmony) was in IR blaster mode only... no Wi-Fi or Bluetooth connection (bcos I had them disabled on the TV). It was only when I started using these advance features capabilities that I started having issues.

This is essentially is a software/firmware issue and (thankfully) not hardware related (thankfully!). What a relief!

        Hope this helps!

Pioneer VSX-522-K remote control not working???
            by tmhobadcap
I have this receiver for at least 10 years. Usually, we just use the remote for turning on/off and adjusting the volume. Recently, the remote control started not able to turn the receiver on. Later, the volume also could not be adjusted by the remote control.

At first, I thought that it was the usual problem which can be fixed by cleaning the contacts on the switches and the pcb. I opened the remote and clean it with alcohol. The remote did work again after that. But after one day, it did not work again. I opened it again and clean with alcohol and contact cleaner. Again it worked...

            Sony remote control RM-GD007 glued?
            by snme
Have not found a manner to open this remote without a hammer or grinder.
So far as I can tell, there is no manner to decently open it and remove oil from the contacts.
Any secret technique would be welcome.

Old Privileg 5.1 speakers remote control question
            by piipo
Hi, I have an old Privileg brand 5.1 speakers. I have lost the remote control. I have an universal Harmony remote but there is no Privileg brand in it's software to add. Does anybody have an idea what alternative brand for a remote can I try instead? I'm attaching an image of what the speakers looks like. The image shows 2 main speakers, they are 5 + 1 in total. Thank you very much

Schematic for Denon Remote Control RC1156
            by hemant_2222
            Hello Everyone,

Hope everyone is enjoying their repairs at hand!.

I am looking forward to get the schematic of Denon remote control RC1156. Actually long time no use of the remote leaked the battery thereby corroding few parts as well as the tracks.

I was able to join few of them but the remote is still not working, so i am looking forward for your help, in case anyone understand the schematic or the remote circuit diagram and could me assist me in repairing it.

Please refer to the attached picture, i think the voltage divider is missing...

Sony HCD-HX80R Amplifier Volume Control Problem
            by crackedprint
I have a strange fault on a Sony amplifier. The volume control varies the display from MIN, then 1 up to 30 and then MAX as expected. At MIN there is no sound. However, at 1 it is quite loud and increasing above 1 does not change the sound level.

I have tried a Cold Reset as per the service manual.

I have looked at the I2C clock and data to volume control chip IC501 (BD3499FV). Data is only sent to IC501 when the volume is set to MIN or 1. At any other setting no data is sent to IC501.

I have looked all the way through the service manual and tried many online...
