    Vizio M70-C3 LED Strip Repair

Well, I'm kinda on a roll having fun fixing LED TVs. I have a question for those who have wandered into the arena of fixing your own LED strips. I bought a "cooker" on Amazon whereby it heats the strip so you can extract the LEDs. I successfully rebuilt the 10 of 16 that were bad. BUT - when I put the TV back together at certain times (white screen is really noticeable), I see what I would call a halo effect coming from some of the LEDs. The soldering station discolored the strip where I was working immediately.

Have any of you encountered this and if so what caused it? I am thinking its either the discoloration OR I might not have glued the plastic lenses back onto the LED quite right. Could it be a slightly defective LED? I bought the Amazon specials for replacements (6V LED kit of 100)

Do the Halo's correspond to the positions of the dead LEDs? I'd expect some visual artifacts with 6 led's dead. A picture of the TV on a white screen might help.

Yep, usually means you didn't get the lens back on in the correct orientation, you only have the one spot right?

It's a total of 6 bad spots. I think I could take the entire TV apart again, look at the orientation of the LED lenses that I didn't touch and try to get the 6 bad ones oriented correctly. I think I can use some white out on the strips where the soldering station left some discoloration while I am in there.

Four of the spots are the "halos" - the other two are simply bright spots. Maybe I will simply "live" with those...

Thanks for the advice on the orientation of what I would call "lenses". Is there a more technical term for those?

Nope, it's called a lens, it's for distributing the light evenly. You are correct, if they are not put on right you will get the halo effect, not advised to use super glue because a lot of the superglue has a chemical that will cloud the lens and mess up the light distribution.
