Sony Bravia kdl52w5150. The unit comes on. Has great picture for about 1 second, lcd goes black, comes back on within a second with the bravia logo as pretty as please, then goes black again, and comes back on with bravia logo then goes black and power light goes from green to red and flashes in sequences of 6. When I first got this tv it was doing this, I took it to a local tv guy he said he replaced the lcd to fix it and charged me 568.00 for the repair. This lasted for about 2 months now it is doing it again. I seriously doubt he replaced a lcd sinc the lcd for this set costs 1600.00. I have went to ebay and bought a new power supply, and both lcd boards and replaced them and this set is still doin the same thing. I have been doubtfull that the lcd is bad since it does come on for just a second with a perfect picture and then goes to displaying th bravia logo twice before it shuts down and goes to the power light flashing red in sequences of 6. I also have a kdl52v5100 that has a cracked lcd is there a part in that which could fix my other one, I know the two do not have the same boards in the back that I could see I have teken the back off of bothe and compared, but not sure about the lcd lamps and such. if nothing else would the good lcd work in the set with the bad lcd? any help would be appreciated.

Do you replace the inverter boards?

Re: Sony KDL52W5150 6 blinks
I don't know what they were called, but they were the D3N and D4N boards. these boards connected to the main power supply and then to the lamps one board supplied the lamps on the right side and the other the lamps on the left. Actually the part numbers of the three boards that were replaced were 1-878-997-11 (D3N), 1-878-997-12 (D4N) these were the two small boards and if I am not mistaken the main power supply board was a G7 or something like that I am not in front of the unit at this time. My understanding was that there is a main power supply board (G7) and two satelite (for lack of knowing the proper terminology) power boards IE the inverter boards D3N and D4N.

Re: Sony KDL52W5150 6 blinks
It would be appreciated if someone out there who knows the blink codes on this model Sony would let me know what 6 blinks is. Also, would like to know if the lcds between the two models is interchangable. I really don't feel that the sony has a major problem since the lcd does come one with a pretty picture, and then has the logo real nice. Is it possible for the BU board to cause this problem, if so I will order one of those. I may not be the most talented in this area, but I do know how to solder and will attempt to fix and learn (operative word - learn) as I go.

Re: Sony KDL52W5150 6 blinks
This past weekend, the guy that fixed this problem on this sony called me said he had one like it which had a broken panel that he would sell me, so I could swap the panels. When he fixed it he said he replaced the panel to repair it ( Charged $558.00 to repair last time). I replied well if you had to replace the panel wouldn't I be wasting my time putting a bad panel into another set. His reply was "it ain't the panel you got a shortage in the set". I have replaced the main power board, the two inverter boards - I have not replaced the tcon and the main bu board yet. I have no schematics on this set. But I am convinced that the panel is not bad, since it does light a show a pretty picture for about 2 seconds before it goes black, then after about a sec it comes back on shows BRAVIA across the panel ( it does this twice before it goes black ) and then starts blinking. ( I did notice that before this happened that one of the back speakers on the extended sound in the back was out) could the sound on the bu board cause this set to go into shutdown mode. Don't know how long the sound was out on that speaker, my wife usually watches this set, and I caught it one day walking by. I just unpluged all the extended audio from the set, both speakers in the set were working so I told her the extended audio had a problem I would get to it as i had time. Set was playing fine with the external amp unplugged for a couple of weeks so I assumed that the external amp developing a problem didn't affect the tv set. Amp was plugged into audio out in the back of the set. Keeping in mind the symptoms are exactly the same as when I took it to be repaired - I have the feeling this guy thinks he has found a fool to pay him another 558.00 to get it repaired again.

If you are new to this forum, we can help a lot more if you please post clear focused pictures (max resolution 2000x2000 and 2MB) of your boards using the manage attachments button so they are hosted here. Information and picture clarity compositions should look like this post.
We respectfully ask that you make some time and effort to read some of the guides available for basic troubleshooting. After you have read through them, then ask clarification questions or report your findings.
Please do not post inline and offsite as they slow down the loading of pages.

Re: Sony KDL52W5150 6 blinks
HI i hope your lcd-tv with six blinks problem is still in yours
according to remicon diagnosis your problem is back light error
3 simple step to check
*check if you have +24v from main smps (dou you have because you said your t.v will turn on and display sony logo before entering protection stage)
*check if BL(back light) on is present to inverter board 3.3v DC (dou you have because you said your t.v will turn on and display sony logo before entering protection stage)
*check if your inverter board have high voltage output(be careful use high voltage prove) (dou you have because you said your t.v will turn on and display sony logo before entering protection stage)
possible defect on 6 Blinks eror
main board if no BL ON
main smps if no 24v dc
inverter board if no high voltage out
all that three parts is good because you said your t.v will turn on and shut off after sony logo appear.
your problem is a busted back light it maybe a one two or all back light
disassemble the LCD be carefull until you saw a backligth turn on the t.v without LCD screen to see how many back ligth does not on. replace all busted back ligth
