Thanks for the updates Howard. I have been a little "burnt out" (pun intended) with the Sony TV but I will keep your fix on file when I try to "erase" those lines again. Glad to hear that you finally found the source of the problem. Congratulations!

I hear that, the 65x900c I have, most of it is 3/16 of an inch thick, on the bottom part with all the boards add a little thickness but it's still like less than 2 inches thick in that area, very slim indeed, too bad I messed it up.

One thing positive about these XBRs is they are incredible thin (females seems to fans haha) and surely edge lit which provides a very even backlight. The cheap HiSense and TCLs I've worked on try to go thin with stuck on reflector paper with standard backlight bars. Almost never go back on with even backlight... probably wasn't that even coming out of the factory haha.

UPDATE : Blocking off VGH VHG_ODD VGH_EVEN AND CLK4 fixed the picture completely I figure line 13 was CLK4 (line 16 to 13 is 4)

I could remove the resistor/fuses on the buffer board for these (VGH need to be cut) but probably no difference from masking off the t-con output?

Nearly fixed by blocking out VGH VGH_ODD VGH_EVEN from T-Con on the failed side of the panel. Now picture is great and just have 1 bright line (13 from top) and line 1-12 seems dimmer/discolored.

Note the TV is upside down in pic below.

Possible to do better than this? Maybe the panel fault is line 13 and VGH* so have to sacrifice one or the other? LCD panel is LG.

Sorry to hear that. I had the same outcome. If half the screen is not displaying then a new T-con would probably work. Lines on the screen are a stubborn problem and not easy to fix.

oh well, replacement t-con. Same symptoms ( post #54 ) so fault on panel / buffer board side. Will try removing CLK3-4 resisters next since masking signals yield best result (but still dark black lines on that side of the panel)

Thanks Howard, for the update. Sorry to be so slow getting back to you. I kind of considered this thread to be dead after my last attempt got me back to the way the TV was when it first started giving me this problem. Glad to hear from you and that you have a Sony with a similar problem that I may be able to learn from. In my first opening post I stated “Hi, I have a Sony XBR-65X750D that has horizontal lines at the bottom 6 inches of the screen. I’m not sure if this is a panel issue or power supply/main board problem. I did replace the T-Con board without any change in the problem”. I imagine that it could be possible that I got a bad T-Con board from eBay but with it showing exactly the same problem on the TV, I didn’t think it was likely. I don’t have the problem with vertical ghosting like your 850D, I will be interested to hear your final solution and appreciate the info you are sharing. I will open it back up in the near future and try some of the fixes you did that helped solve the problem.

Actually not quite fixed. Half of the panel with blocked off CLK1-4 has slight dark horizontal bands. CLK1-4 from the other half of the screen can't drive across the 65" panel.

So need to further reduce number of block off row gate drivers or find another fix.

Was able to isolate to blocking off CLK3-4 but dark lines exist on the half of the panel thats blocked off.

Anomaly alternates between good picture and horizontal lines + screen door images shifted vertically every second. Does this strongly suggest fault could be on the t-con side so maybe worth trying a replacement t-con?

Just fixed one of these XBR-65X850D. Similar to OP's XBR-65X750D. 850D does have 2 flex from main to t-con compared to750D's 1 flex.

• Row anomaly would appear and disappear with a ~1s interval so could suggest t-con. But 1 black line was consistently present which may suggest the panel and/or buffer boards.
• Row drivers on left side of panel (looking from the back) was the culprit. Blocking them off got good picture. Was able to isolate down to CLK1-4 but couldn't get less, perhaps multiple row gate drivers failed.
• OP's failure was also on the left side according to burn marks but I had no burn marks.
• COF looked fine
• Row driver resistor array resistance same on left and right side of panel

I suppose could be on the panel side or t-con side. Need to buy a t-con ($25 on ebay) to find out. Maybe I'll just live with blocking out 4 gate driver lines

Hi Howard, I only replaced the 2 burnt resistors because when tested with a volt-ohm meter, the other 6 tested “normal”. I used Goop glue to glue the 2 0805 resistors in place in hopes that they would not move while soldering the leads to the test point on the board, act as an insulator so there would be no short circuits and that heat wouldn’t travel to the resistor and un-solder at the resistor. It worked, not pretty in the picture but no one will see it anyway and the 0805 resistors, as small as they are, are about 5 times larger than the resistors I was trying to replace. Anyway, I am tired of trying to solder itsy bitsy teeny weeny resistors and it has been a lot of time for you and I just trying to get back to even, not ahead. So I guess I will put the TV back together and live with the lines at the bottom of the screen and hope it is a lesson learned that chasing some rabbits just isn’t worth the time and effort.

Hello, I actually did it. At first I thought I had done it but when I checked the picture there was no change. I went back and found the wire for the resistor to the left of the originally burnt out one that I was only going to replace had one lead that wasn't soldered to the test point. I re-soldered it and checked the picture again and now it is back to the way it was when I first asked about it. (Lines about 6 inches up from the bottom of the screen). At this point, I consider that a win but a lot of work just to get back to my starting point. I'm not sure the original burnt out resistor is the problem with the lines at the bottom of the screen since I believe I have successfully soldered the new resistor in it's place. So I am not sure where to go from here or just leave it.

Hard to tell from pic what was done due to the coating that probably holds the resistor in place.

Did you replace just 1 resistor or all 8?

Anyway, if no easy way to remove all 8 resistor and solder back 1 by 1 to attempt repair by relying on the other 8 gate drivers from other end of the panel. Perhaps just quit while ahead

My needle nose soldering iron and the 0805 100ohm resistors finally arrived. After a lot of trial and error, 0805 resistors are still pretty small, I think I have stumbled on a way to solder a lead wire on to the ends of the resistor, scotch tape. I tape half of the resistor to a piece of paper then scotch tape the tiny wire leads down so they lay on the edged of the resistor for soldering and with a little bit of flux and a hot soldering iron I can solder the leads on the resistor. Well, it’s not quite that easy but much easier than trying to hold it in place with a tooth pick. Now I have to figure out how to keep the ends in place when I solder the end to the circuit board, they’re so small and short that they become un-soldered from the heat transfer up the short wire. I tried heat shrink tubing but it really isn’t small enough, also thinking about glue or clear paint to keep the resistor end in place when I solder the other end to the circuit board. I have done some end to end like most resistors but they are so “big” that there isn’t much room for the wire and I know they will melt both sides of the wire and fall off. So I am going to try edge soldering in hopes of being able to get the resistor further away from the soldering point. (see pictures). I might try gluing the resistors in place in hopes that the glue will keep the wires connected at the resistor when I solder them in circuit. I will keep you updated when (if) I successfully solder the resistors in place. Have a great 4th of July. Regards, Gil

tacking on short wire to 0805 probably requires quite a bit of microsoldering experience and skill. iPhone/Macbook repair pros use tiny pad repair kits to rebuild missing pads. Probably need to be really good with micro pencil soldering iron + heat control + epoxy + UV cured masks. Note his binocular microscope for microsoldering (but probably can't use on panel buffer boards while its installed and angled even if have microscope) However, headwear magnifier is probably good enough. Howardc64, yes, I did unplug the power with each change in the ribbon cable masking. I tested the resistance of both sides and from the test point to ground I got a consistent 4.4mohms and across the resistors I got 101ohms to 105ohms depending on how good of a connection I could make. So, I guess we're back to square one?
