Re: imac g5 1.6ghz 17" power supply
Hi Toasty,
I'm sure I am not the first to say you are right.
I have never tried to test FETs in circiut with just a analog vom.
I didn't have much time to work on it today but, I did get some test done.
The vom I used only puts out 1.5v on any ohm range.
Testing the left 2 pairs I got just what you said should be there.
The right pair only reads about 2 ohms either direction.
I tried to use my fluke scope meter on diode test (which puts out 5v) to turn off the 12v FETs but no luck.
I think I have an old simpson 260 that may put out more voltage.
Worst case I can pull them and check them on the curve tracer.
I did put the scope on each output to see what happend at startup.
The standby voltages look good with no ripple.
The 3.3v and 5v start to charge (about 1.5v or so) before the supply shuts back down.
The 12v output only comes up to about 250mv during that same time.
If those FETs are bad that could be causing the shutdown.
Do you know if the rest of the supply will run if I pull the 12v FETs or will it still go into protect?
Thanks, I will test more later.
