    CyberPower 1500AVR Not Charging

Hi all. I have a CyberPower 1500AVR that has stopped charging its batteries. I replaced the batteries thinking this was the issue as the originals were several years old but the new batteries are the same. With the unit on and the batteries connected, I read 20.5 volts at the battery connectors. Not sure if that is helpful or not. I assume this is just what's left in the batteries after having the unit powered on for a day or so. There are no signs of damage on the board aside from some slight heat blackening of red and black wires just above the viper22a ic. The two caps in the photo, circled in red, both have a brown solution on their exterior which I assume is glue and not leaked from within.

I've read other threads where some caps and the viper22a ic were replaced as a fix. Any help would be greatly appreciated and let me know what I can provide in assistance. Thanks and regards.

Anyone? Even just a schematic of this model would be helpful. Thanks.

I see some darkening of the circuit board around JP6, or is that just the way the picture was taken? I would check that area for poor solder connections, If there is heat in that area I would try replacing the two smaller electrolytics in that area, those small elec. caps. dry out but look ok as they don't leak or bulge.

I would recommend replacing the viper 22 and the small UF value capacitors as well at a minimum if you want to do some good measure replace all the capacitors

The only board darkening is at the viper22. Anything else is just camera phone variations. Thank you though.

Can I assume that the caps in the vicinity of the viper22 are dedicated to the charging function? Or when you suggest replacing the small uf caps, you mean throughout the board? I think I would prefer to start with minimal replacement and work up from there if need be. Thanks for the input.

Yes replace the capacitors next to the viper 22 ic chip at a minimum to see if you can get it to work correctly or not also replace the capacitors next to optic sensor as well

I suspect the viper 22 is used to supply a standby voltage only not for charging etc.
I recommended replacing the small caps if the area was over heated, since it was just a shadow in the image they may be ok, but you never know as small caps like that usually don't have any bulging or leakage, they just dry up overtime.

Sorry for my lack of knowledge but which is the optic sensor on the board?

An optic sensor is a ic chip that has 2 pins on one end another 2 pins on the other end of it

I can not see it in the pictures that you have provided

Look up the part number and you will then know what type of device this is but I would recommend changing the capacitor right next to it

Here is the data sheet for this device

What is the part number for U1 next to the optic sensor

This is the voltage reference ic chip if you have old switching power supply board you could find one that works correctly and replace it and see if fix’s your problem or just replace the viper 22 ic chip the optic sensor ic chip and the voltage reference ic chip and the two capacitor and see if you get the switching power supply board to start working correctly again

Now for the optic sensor you can check to see if you have any voltage on LED side of the sensor which is around 2 to 3 volts the voltage reference ic chip depending on on ic chip could be any where from 1.5 to 2.5 volts you would have to look at the data sheet for this information

Just a quick update.. I finally got all the parts needed and replaced the COSMO device, the Viper22a device and all the caps in the general area of the Viper22a. The unit now works properly and charges the batteries as it should. Thanks to everyone who helped me get through this!

Posting to say thank you for the information in this thread.

I have a GS-1500U, which is essentially a rebadged CyberPower 1500AVR that was sold by BestBuy under the Geek Squad brand quite a few years ago. I've gone through at least 2 sets of batteries in it over the years and most recently it wouldn't charge the batteries anymore. I charged the batteries with my Noco Genius 10 and put them back in but within a few days the batteries were dead and the unit would loose power at times (completely powered off). I tried fresh batteries and had the same experience.

I came across the thread researching via google. I ordered up the chips/caps mentioned above (COSMO/Viper and caps) and replaced them. As best as I can tell I'm back in business.

I will give it a few days of testing to ensure its working but I'm grateful for this forum and thread!

                                  Hello, all.

                                  Cyberpower Battery Backup Unit.

I bought two new ML18-12 batteries through Amazon (They have already refunded my money for the two batteries as we thought the batteries might have been bad.)
When I got them in, they were not fully charged. I connected them to the UPS and waited 24 hours before connecting any networking equipment.
In parallel, they read 24v, but within 24 hours, the meter on the front of the unit dropped from 4 to 3 bars on the battery charge indicator.
Checking the voltage, it was down to 22v.
                                  I quickly removed everything...

I'd like to start out by thanking this forum for providing the info to be able to repair my 15 year old CP1500AVRLCD UPS. Here is all the info I gathered during my trouble-shooting and re-capping.

Like clockwork, I've had to replace the SLA batteries every 4 years. It was about that time and the UPS was acting like it needed new batteries... randomly shutting off with AC present, not being able to charge fully, and poor runtime when AC was removed. So, I replaced the batteries but noticed that it was not charging properly.

I decided to verify that the batteries were...

Looking for some help with this one if anybody can assist please? I have an HP Probook 470 G4 Laptop which recently started to intermittently failing to turn on, with intermittent white LED light(charging LED) by the charging port when it should have been charging and showing an orange LED instead. Definitely some sort of gradual failure. Now the laptop fails to power on at all, no charging LED, no Power Button LED either - seemingly dead.
Stripped down to the bare motherboard. The original HP battery, when disconnected from the motherboard, is reading 0.00v - possibly some sort of protection...
