Recapped: PC Power & Cooling, it had Fuhjyyus!

To be fair, this is a Silencer 275ATX which was probably bought in 2000 or 2001 or thereabouts (I really don't remember). However, I pulled it apart to check the status of the caps, and was surprised to find a bulging YEC, as well as several Fuhjyyus. I remember paying a huge premium for it when I bought it. I contacted PCP&C, and they were not able to provide any information to help me with the recap. I think think they make a great power supply, but was disappointed to see these in there.

    Here's what I pulled out:
    C21 4700 10 Fuhjyyu TMR 13x36
    C29 4700 10 Fuhjyyu TMR 13x36
    C23 4700 10 Fuhjyyu TMR 13x36
    C17 470 16 Teapo SEK 8x11
    C13 1000 16 Fuhjyyu TNR 10x21
    C24 3300 10 YEC SH 10x23
    C22 1650 16 Jamicon TK 10x22

    And, here's the replacements:
    Replacements
    C21 4700 6.3 Nichicon HD 12.5x32
    C29 4700 6.3 Nichicon HD 12.5x32
    C23 4700 6.3 Nichicon HD 12.5x32
    C17 470 16 UCC LXY 8.x20
    C13 1000 16 Nichicon PJ
    C24 3300 6.3 Nichicon HZ
    C22 1800 16 UCC KZH

Anyways, its recapped and (still) working fine. There were no symptoms before I pulled it apart, I was just checking. C17 was under a heatsink, so the 20mm height just BARELY fit in there. I was glad the bigger caps were 12.5mm, that allowed me to get some better replacements without being constrained to a 10mm diameter.

I'm not suprised. I called PCP&C sometime back to inquire about their caps. I told the guy up front why I was calling, and I was willing to invest in premium PSU if they had premium caps.

He gave me a load of condescending bullshit and evaded my direct questions. so... I took my money elsewhere. As it turns out, they were/are using the same craps found in all the cheap PSUs. This puts them into the same boat with Antec...

This is something I've often wondered about... now I know! Thanks for taking the time to post this Ed!
A man convinced against his will is of the same opinion still.

You changes C21, C23, C24, C29 to 6.3V rating. I am not sure which supply rail it is connected to... but, usually I use the following capacitor voltage rating for recap:
        10v for +5V
        6.3v for +3.3V
        16v for +12v

That Silencer is probably one of their old Sparkle sourced units, from before FSP bought Sparkle. PC P&C isn't using them anymore. Right now they're using Win-Tact and Seasonic.

Most of their high end stuff now is Win-Tact, who seems to love Hitachi on the primary and Teapo on the secondary. The Silencer 750W (Seasonic based) is all Nippon Chemi-Con IIRC.

My thoughts on the acceptability of using Teapo aside, I don't want to see those in the Turbocools at the prices they charge. That's why I don't buy them and often don't recommend them. There's better for the price out there. But the Silencer 750W is a good one (not sure about any of the others in that line).

              Samsung R530 Bremen motherboard cooling
              by Ace Perception
              Hi,
I'm wondering if anybody out there has much knowledge of Samsung Bremen motherboards.
I've got a Samsung R530 which is about 10 years old, over the last 12 months it developed a worsening problem where when asked to do much work it would shut itself down. I had a good idea this was due to overheating which was confirmed by a temperature monitor programme which showed little balls of fire next to the various internal temperature readings. I could also prevent it shutting down if I placed a huge fan running at full speed in front of its air intake!
So I went in pursuit of...

              Liquid cooling?
              by Hondaman
I hope my computer does not randomly reboot while typing this. My main system is the AsRock 970A-G/3.1 motherboard with the AMD 8150 chip. I am experiencing FREQUENT and RANDOM reboots once the system is used for a couple of hours (sometimes it reboots before I even get to the Win7/Linux Mint dual-boot screen). The problem MIGHT be the DRAM controller chip (I recently upgraded to the maximum 64 GB RAM). It also might be the VRM chips. I am using a typical aftermarket CPU cooler, which does NOT blow air DOWN onto the VRM heat sink.

Help repair Panasonic fridge not cooling
              by mikey5791
              Hi all forum members,

Few days ago, i might have forgotten to close my home fridge freezer door completely. The next day, the ice cubes and frozen meat almost melted halfway and the freezer doesn't feel cool. I shut it off, wipe dry and let it air dry for one whole day. The next day i switched on the fridge, the compressor run for a second and it shuts off(no vibration and no sound at all) only the internal freezer compartment fan is running but is not cooling even i switched on a full day.
After shut off, i dismantle the rear water pan holder and reached to the compressor wiring....

Desoldering gun station modified to use a 18 volt @ 20 amp switching power supply
              by sam_sam_sam
I have wanting to do this project for quite sometime now and I finally found a switching power supply that will work on this desoldering gun station ZD-915 that the original switching power supply took a shit and just was not worth trying to fix it because this switching power is not quite big enough to handle the heater element and the vacuum pump

One note when I tested the switching power supply and the voltage control board I noticed that this desoldering gun heat up much faster than the original switching power supply which I was really surprised by to the point that I might buy...
