12vt Webasto HL32 diesel heater and thermostat wiring

Anyone good with electrics? Currently sorting out my Webasto HL32 diesel heater for my camper van (old but still works and throws out some heat) the manual is here and wiring dio's on Pg38 onwards http://butlertechnik.com/download/9G..._optimised.pdf

Looking to fit this timer to it so wondering if anyone can give me some pointers on how to wire it in
as having some trouble understanding the diagrams on the webasto manual. Looking to wire in a rheostat to control the motor speed.

If I can fit this then saved a packet as the webasto stuff is an arm and a leg for what you get.

I looked and the electric motor drives both the combustion air and hot air fans. It seems to be two speeds, part load for start-up/cool down, and full speed.

If you slow the fan down, it upsets the air/fuel mixture and it might turn too slow and stall during part load sequence. Or the heat-exchanger would roast with full flame and low airflow. I think it would be a safety issue, this thing is designed for certain fan air flow for combustion.

If you wire in rheostat (at X5 between pin 2 and the motor, but after the resistor R2, so R2 still connects right to the motor) you can change the full-speed but not part load speed. You'd need to lean out the mixture.

I do not know if this will work work the way you want it to
      Here is why

The controller dose a few thing it not just a timer and it not just a thermostat it dose alot more it controls the heating of the fuel that just to name a few things and I did not read the hole manual but from looks I do not think that you can not with out changing a lot controls you would have use a microcontroller to maybe do it that might be a big maybe

Now if was undertaking this I might find a way do a work around but I would have to have my hands on the unit and still might be a big maybe

Cheers for the replys so far, Looking at youtube someone has made a remote for it but hasn't been active for some time

        https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wxQ42s37vTw

The manual does show a mechanical thermostat and a digital timer as optional extras on page 8

The on switch/rheostat I'm planning to use is this one here on page 17 if you can advise on wiring this in?

My thinking was along the lines of wiring the thermostat into the main 12v feed prior to the rheostat and leave the rheostat on the on position so that the current would be interrupted until the temp dropped
