How to NOT recap your PSU

I've found this some time ago.
    http://linustechtips.com/main/topic/...caps-on-a-psu/
I already posted some comments in that thread.

But just take a look at the pictures and enjoy it...

Yes, but a general purpose one...
Nothing you should use for filtering in a PSU...

He did almost everything wrong with that PSU you can do.
Replacing low ESR/low impedance caps with GP caps.
          Replacing a 2200rpm fan with a 1200rpm (or so)...
I think the fan was also connected to the mainboard, not the PSU.

guess that explains why the ripple got worse after recapping...

                    ASUS P5GC-MX motherboard recap
                    by momaka
Here’s another motherboard that needed a full recap: an ASUS P5GC-MX.
This one was gifted to me some years ago by user Pentium 4, along with a few other goodies. It actually came in working order with no bulging or leaking caps. However, I noted there were United Chemicon KZG caps everywhere on the motherboard. The CPU VRM output (CPU V_core) was the only exception: it had only 2x KZG. The rest was 6x UCC TMV 4V 680 uF caps… which aren’t any good news either.

So here is what the motherboard looked like with its original caps:

                    CPU VRM area up close…...

no-name Radeon 9600 XT recap and cooler

I've been seeing a lot of cheap-looking (but not always so cheap) no-name AGP video cards on eBay for a while. They started popping up quite a bit when the market for AGP cards became more alive all of a sudden due to interest in “retro” PCs. One thing that struck me about these cheapo cards is that they almost always seem to come with garbage caps - including the abominable Sacon FZ. That aside, though, I've been wondering about the rest of the quality (or lack of?) on these cards. So I decided to satisfy my curiosity yet again.

This one was actually suggested to me by ChaosLegionnaire....

Recap motherboards :: Abit KG7-LITE and Soltek SL-75FRN2-L
                    by Foetuss
                    Hi all

Hope this is in the correct place.

I'm planning on recapping both motherboards. I actually already ordered recplament caps for them, where I will be changing out most for poly's.
Could use some double checking to see if I'm not doing something stupid .

Pictures of the boards are attached.
What I will be replacing with what : (planned)

BFG Tech. GeForce FX5200 [ASLM52256] – full recap info and cooler mod
                    by momaka
The more time passes, the more nostalgic I get with old hardware. Video cards and motherboards tend to be my weak spot. As such, I often scavenge eBay for old PC hardware, especially anything with bad caps or in need of similar minor repair.

For today's consideration, I have a popular low-end card from back in the early 2000's: an nVidia GeForce FX5200. This one is the BFG Tech. Asylum take on the card, with 256 MB of DDR RAM running at 400 MHz and 128-bit bus (vs. 64-128 MB and 64-bit bus on many of the cheaper versions.)

                    I think it's easy...

                    Asus SIO mess
                    by Joshua Toone
Hi...So I have an Asus ROG Strix 15 aka GL503GE and the board is BKLB
Anyway so the SIO was blown when someone disconnected the charger(strange) I checked all rails for shorts before I replaced the SIO with a blank chip
I just got kbd lights(RGB rainbow) but nothing else, 3V and 5V are present but nothing else...
Tried with 2 more blanks from different sellers
I checked for voltages going to the SIO everything is good but no output from the SIO I am thinking it needs to be programmed
I couldn't find the exact programmed chip but something that looks like it is from...
