You have a lot of bad soldering joints when you see a ring around the joints those need to be reworked

I would recommend replacing all capacitors that are less than 100uf
at a minimum

It would be better if you replace all the caps except the the main capacitor

I had to pack up this project due to moving and am now getting back into the stash. I'm doing some more inspection and measurements and will respond shortly.

Anyone else have experience with this model PSU or similar?

Measure the voltage across the 400 volt input capacitor. If it measures 166 volts, the APFC (active power factor correction) circuit is not working.

Input cap voltage is 167V.

I definitely notice a gap in the solder joint right under R7!

R7 looks okay to me.

Also check the input cap for bulging, the top is rounded. May be just the plastic but better be sure.

Just the plastic insulator on top, all the caps look good (not by brand though, obviously).

I'm going to check the transistors for shorts and see what shows up.

R7 looks okay to me.

It's below R7 and to the right of R6.

Driven by CM6800G!



Any thoughts on replacing the 6r190c6 with 20N60C3 or FCP20N60 (ON Semi) or ... ? I'm searching for details on issues or reliability related to these FETs and found a few situations where these substitutions were made. Also, in one review of this PSU they show the 20N60C3 instead of the 6r190c6.

Yeah me thinks IPx60R190C6 and 20N60 look like equivalents.

Think that 500V FET should be fine as well, it's two-forward when it has CM6800 without even looking, and most of them usually only had 18N50s (or 20N50s when over 600 W). Depends on what you can find around.
