    ATX PSU shorted blow fuse

    Hi all

I have a cheap Winstar 450w atx psu when i opened it i see blown fuse i started measuring on primary side and found 2 diodes on bridge rectifier open and a n-channel mosfet CS2N60F shorted i replaced all this components and power om the psu the fuse blow and the 2 diodes shorted again i measured the mosfet that i replaced from gate to source and i get 85 ohm resistance. Please help me to troubleshoot this psu.

Post good pictures from the top and the bottom of your power supply.
Once the mosfet blows, usually there are bad components on the gate drive circuit of the mosfet.

fet is probably locked on because of a blown drive circuit.

Looking on the primary side i see a blown C945 transistor and a open resistor.

Replaced the C945 transistor and resistor and the psu is working.

You should also replace that resistor that looks burnt on the secondary (output ... low voltage) side, it's right next to a capacitor.

Also replace the output electrolytic capacitors ... they look to be cheap ones, they will fail sooner.

VGA MOSfet permanently shorted and loss of MOSfet pad
                  by Nooy
Hello everyone, I recently found this badcaps site and super Learn Electronics Repair youtube channel. And I wanted to learn how to troubleshoot power supplies and VGA cards and how to practice soldering, since I already have a properly defective piece of them. I am currently trying to solve two problems:

I have a Gigabyte GV-RX460WF2OC-4GD type card. I managed to find the faulty MOSfet (AON6414A) on it, which I replaced. The card starts up, but after about half a minute, the MOSfet in the same position will be shorted again. Is it possible that the PWM controller driving the MOSfet...

                  Alienware M18x Shorted CPU Mosfet
                  by chestercc
I've got an old Alienware M18x R1 which shorted out the charger whenever it was connected. Tracked down the short to two shorted caps and burned CPU power controller caused by a shorted mosfet on the CPU's graphic power supply.

I've replaced the faulty mosfet, two shorted caps and the CPU Power controller (NCP6151S52MNR2G).

Issue is now whilst there is no short if I attempt to power the system on the fans spin for a couple seconds there are no lights and no further action - the PCH is heating up but there is no CPU power coming out but there is an enable signal...

Harman Kardon sub TS11 (ds15 amplifer) blows fuse and mosfets
                  by BlackScreen_22
Hi, I'll start by saying that I'm not an expert and I've reached a point where I don't know what to try/do anymore...
Starting from the beginning: I opened this subwoofer for the first time with a very strong smell of burnt electrical components, I realize that on the amplifier board there is a hole between V+ OUT and GND about the size of a finger, the damaged components were the shorted mosfets, two damaged zener diodes and two capacitors. I bought everything, I fixed the hole by cutting the pcb and putting a piece of a perforated board.
I had no problems connecting mosfets and capacitors,...

                  Bestec ATX0300F5WA - fast,or slow blow, fuse?
                  by socketa
I bought a dead motherboard, and connected it to this PSU,
Was checking the standby voltages on the motherboard, and, whilst doing so, the PSU made a loud bang with a flash of light.
So now i truly got a bang for my bucks, and something else to try and fix.
The fuse was blowen, and the top was blowen off of a TNY276PN chip
The glass fuse didn't have any marking to say if it was fast or slow blow
So i checked the marking on the PCB thinking that that would tell me,
but it 's got a T/F8A printed on the board
So should i get a fast blow fuse, or should...

MSI GTX-980ti shorted MOSFET on memory rail
                  by daemon123
                  Hi All,
I have this MSI GTX-980ti Gaming Golden Edition. It had shorted mosfet on memory. Replaced the shorted i.e. Q47 PK616BA with 4C09N and the card ran fine for a month. Then suddenly again the same problem. This time when i replace it 4C09N or with replacement PK616BA (Aliexpress) it gets shorted. As soon as turn on the PC the PSU shuts down and the same mosfet Q47 gets short.
What should be the next step. Kindly guide.
