    Another dead Antec SP-450

Well....had two SP450s.....first one died a couple months ago. Now the other one has died. Funny....look like two different PSs when you open them up.

externally, they both look the same. label is the same....just the S/N is different.......I06033333859 for the first one that died and I06033353443 for the latest failure. I really don't like how this latest one is made. crap just stuffed in there....held on by solder joints. yuk.

But guess what?????? Yep...two vented Fujyfuk caps. One is a 1000µf 10V, not sure what the other one is.

its a good thing i don't live close to an open shooting range.........

They use Suscon and Letec at times.

The 1000 uf cap that is bulged is for the standby supply there should be another 1000uf near it.

My Infocus X3 Power Supply / Ballast was loaded with crappy Su Scon caps whats worse they were General Purpose 85 C caps. Putting GP caps on the secondary side in any switcher is a bad move.

They don't even make 85 C caps in low ESR as far as I know.

Dell I think is currently using Su Scon on their monitors with the (video processing / inverter/power supply combo).

I think you mean Ltec not Letec those caps seem to be fine in power supplies as a matter of fact the Xbox 360 uses those caps in that fiery hell that is the 360 power brick and they hold up fine.

Elements of the past and the future combining to make something not quite as good as either.

I may be wrong on that one......

I'll see if I can get some in the next couple days. Too much crap going on at work.

they look the same, but not sure. I haven't taken the second one completely apart yet.

Sounds like it's time to call up Badcaps or Digikey. I think you could probably revive them just fine.

It's gotten to the point where when I see anything with Fuhjyyu caps, it gets recapped. Do not pass go, do not collect $200. I've even recapped brand new Antec SP350's, right out of the box (and case they came in). After recapping they work well as replacement units.

Since you have two units with presumably good components (other than caps) could you look at my post at thread here and post the component values (one diode) I'm looking for?
